CC CIRCLE K DISCOUNT5

A man who is accused of attempting to hijack a car from a Circle K garage in Dublin while a woman was sitting in the passenger seat has been refused bail.

Michael Doran (39), of Whitechurch Way, Ballyboden, Dublin 16, is charged with the unauthorised taking of the car. He also faces charges of driving without insurance, driving without a licence and criminal damage to the front driver-side door of the car.

Garda Sean Brennan told Tallaght District Court that the incident occurred at approximately 9.30am on Saturday, 21 February, at Circle K, Belgard Square South, Dublin 24.

He said the male driver had left the car momentarily, with the keys in the ignition, to go inside the Circle K store.

Garda Brennan said the accused is alleged to have got in the driver’s seat and attempted to drive the car – a 2008 beige Skoda Octavia. While the vehicle did not leave the forecourt, damage was allegedly caused to the front driver-side door of the car during the incident.

The court heard that Mr Doran was arrested shortly afterwards and, after caution and charge, made no reply.

Garda Brennan objected to bail under Section 2 of the Bail Act.

Judge Áine Clancy refused bail and ordered that Mr Doran be taken into custody to appear before Cloverhill District Court on Friday, 27 February.

Ethan Foley BL appeared for the defendant, who was granted legal aid.
