Drunk man who frightened woman by banging on her door avoids prison

A DRUNK man who started to bang on the door of a random house frighting the female occupant has avoided a prison sentence.

Ivans Zinkevics, who accepted he has a drink problem, was also found on the Malahide Road on another date being abusive to members of the public and extremely intoxicated.

Zinkevics (49) has been given 240 hours community service work in lieu of a two month prison sentence after he was deemed suitable by the Probation Services.

A MONTESSORI worker who assaulted a female garda and called her a ‘dirty lesbian slag’ had her case struck out after she paid €500 to the Garda Benevolent Fund.

Emma Cowley (23), of Highfield Lawns in Swords, pleaded guilty before Swords District Court to being intoxicated, using threatening and abusive behaviour and assaulting Garda Miriam O’Donovan on August 16th at Swords Garda Station.

As Cowley was late attending Swords District Court on Wednesday, Judge Dermot Dempsey refused to deal with the case and put it back to Balbriggan District Court, where Cowley paid over the money.

Woman who drove uninsured escapes disqualification

A WOMAN who drove uninsured and claimed her husband forgot to renew the car’s insurance has escaped a disqualification under special circumstances.

Jennifer Jordan (30) was stopped at a checkpoint in Balbriggan and gardai seized the car after they discovered she had no insurance.

Jordan, of Knockbrack Downs in Drogheda, pleaded guilty before Balbriggan District Court to driving without insurance and driving without an NCT at Stephenstown on June 10th.

Defence solicitor Donogh McGowan said Jordan hasn’t been driving since she was stopped.

Garda authorities refused to carry out a forensic scene investigation because the victim in a road traffic collision did not die, a court has heard.

The barrister defending a nurse charged with dangerous driving has said that this was an appalling decision in a case where a motorcyclist had part of his leg amputated.

Barbara O’Toole, a nurse at Stewart’s Hospital in Palmerstown, is alleged to have driven out of an estate onto a main road crashing into Paul Woodley on a motorcycle.

A Dublin nurse has gone on trial accused of dangerous driving causing serious harm to a motorcyclist who ended up having part of his leg amputated.

Barbara O’Toole, a nurse at Stewart’s Hospital in Palmerstown, is alleged to have driven out of an estate onto a main road crashing into Paul Woodley, who was riding a motorcycle.

O’Toole (42) of Handstead Dale, Finnstown in Lucan, has pleaded not guilty at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court to dangerous driving causing serious harm to Mr Woodley on October 21, 2010 at Monastery Road in Clondalkin.

A TEENAGER who spat blood into a garda’s face in what has been described as a ‘despicable act’ has been sentenced to three months in prison.

Alla Ahmad (19) was arrested after he became involved in an altercation with other youths at Airside Retail Park in Swords, Co Dublin.

He received a cut lip during the altercation and while in Swords Garda Station he became aggressive and spat blood into Sergeant Anthony McNulty’s face and mouth, leaving Sgt McNulty having to take a course of HIV anti-viral tablets.

Young man who had drugs on display on train sentenced to three months

A YOUNG man who sat on a train with cannabis herb on his knee and a total of €400 worth of the drug on his person has been sentenced to three months in prison.

Adam Errity (21), of Remount Racecourse in Lusk, pleaded guilty before Swords District Court to being in unlawful possession of cannabis herb for sale or supply at Malahide Train Station on January 29th.

A MAN who sent a threatening letters to his ex-girlfriend’s grandmother demanding she pay him €10,000 claimed he does not remember penning the letters as he was ‘off his head’ on drink and Valium.

Clinton McCahey was going through a “dark period” in his life at the time, Balbriggan District Court has heard.

McCahey accepted responsibility for sending the letters and claimed he was not going to carry out any of the threats.

A MAN who was intoxicated and refused to leave the area when gardai directed him to several times has been remanded on continuing bail for a Probation & Welfare report.

Martin Daly (24) of Curran Park in Balbriggan pleaded guilty at Balbriggan District Court to being intoxicated and using threatening and abusive behaviour at Curran Park on June 13th.

A young Dublin man who hijacked a car from a heavily pregnant woman and her husband and threatened them with a steering wheel lock has been ordered to come up with €5,000 compensation.

Susan O’Leary told the court she feared she would lose her unborn child when she and her husband Roddie had to run on an icy road to get away from the car thieves.

She also said she now suffers from depression and anxiety and never leaves the house as she is in fear.
