A MAN who burgled a North Dublin pet shop which resulted in over €600 worth of birds dying due to shock and the cold has been sentenced to three months in prison.

Sean Brady (34) was arrested for the burglary after his blood was found at the scene, Swords District Court has heard.

Brady, of Clonliffe Road in Drumcondra, had pleaded guilty to the burglary at Kinsealy Pet Store on October 24th, 2013.

Garda Killian Layden gave evidence that around 10.30pm the owner of the store, Aidan O’Connor became aware there was an intruder in the pet store.

Man who headbutted another man twice has case struck out after he paid compensation

A MAN who headbutted another man in a nightclub leaving the victim socially embarrassed because of his injuries had his case struck out after he paid the victim compensation.

Jandean Hyland (26) headbutted Barry O’Reilly twice in the face because he felt Mr O’Reilly was ‘hanging around’ his group of friends too much.

Hyland, of Ryan’s Park in Duleek, Co Meath, previously pleaded guilty at Swords District Court to assault causing harm to Mr O’Reilly at Home Nightclub in Balbriggan on November 3rd, 2013.

A man threw a pint glass at a woman attending his child’s christening and left the victim with scars and nerve damage to her eye a court has heard.

Thomas Callery hit Danielle Byrne in the face with the glass after he lost his temper following a melee which broke out between Ms Byrne and other guests.

Callery (42) of Coultry Drive, Ballymun, Dublin pleaded guilty at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court to assault causing harm to Danielle Byrne (22) on March 10, 2013 at the Swiss Cottage in Santry.

Judge Mary Ellen Ring remanded him in custody until sentencing in two weeks.

Man charged with trespass and criminal damage at Lusk supermarket is refused bail

A MAN charged with trespass and criminal damage at a North Dublin supermarket has been refused bail at Balbriggan District Court.

Mark Kelly (35) appeared before the court this morning after he was arrested last night in Lusk village.

Kelly, of Cluain Lara Drive in Finglas, has been charged with trespass and criminal damage at
Cost Cutters Express at The Village Store on Main Street in Lusk on February 18th.

A man who robbed a cash in transit box containing €50,000 a month after he robbed a teenager of €1,700 worth of entertainment equipment has been sentenced to five years in prison.

Michael Byrne (25) had taken a cocktail of up to 40 tablets and heroin on the day he robbed a G4 security van. He told gardai he “didn’t mean to do it” but had owed money.

Byrne, of Thornville Drive, Kilbarrack, Dublin pleaded guilty at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court to robbing a G4 cash box from a cash in transit van at Raheny Shopping Centre on April 27, 2014.

A 60 year old father of seven and a student have been sentenced for their involvement in large scale drug dealing in Kildare.

Eddie Winston (60) met Lee Bracken Kennedy (21) in a Leixlip industrial estate to hand over nearly €20,000 worth of cannabis herb before they were intercepted by gardaí.

When Winston was arrested, a key to a lock-up unit was found on him. Gardaí located just under €180,000 worth of drugs, a gun and ammunition in the unit.

A MAN who tried to throw a knife over a wall and told gardai they are “f**king clowns” before telling them he “knew where they lived” and would “sort them out” has been convicted in his absence.

Nicholas Keane (37), of Bremore Court in Balbriggan, was found guilty in his absence of being in possession of a knife on January 27th 2014. He was further found guilty of being in unlawful possession of cocaine on the same date.

Garda Derek Dalton told Swords District Court that at 4.50am he came across two males trying to enter a house allegedly armed with knives.

Woman convicted of driving without reasonable consideration misjudged her timing

A MOTORIST who drove out in front of another car forcing the car to break hard to avoid a collision ‘misjudged her timing,’ Swords District Court has heard.

Rica Cantaragiu (28), of Hampton Green in Balbriggan, has been convicted and fined €150 after she pleaded guilty to driving without reasonable consideration on the R132 at Balrothery on May 9th, 2014.

Garda Karl McManus gave evidence that at around 9.35pm he was travelling in a patrol car when he observed Cantaragui pulling out in front of another car on the main road. ‘The other ….read more

A YOUNG man who stole a mobile phone from a shop in what was described as an ‘opportunist’ and ‘foolish’ crime has been sentenced to three months in prison.

Shane Howarth (19) had been given the opportunity to come up with €300 in compensation for the injured party.

However, as he only had €50 with him in court, Judge Dermot Dempsey proceeded to sentence him to prison saying the defendant “doesn’t seem to be duly concerned” about paying the compensation.

A MAN who is alleged to have been in possession of cannabis worth over €13,000 for sale or supply has been remanded on continuing bail for service of the Book of Evidence in April.
