A criminal who head butted a prison officer after complaining his new cell did not have a television has had his time in jail extended by 18 months.

Glen Conroy (29) is currently serving a six year sentence for aggravated burglary and had been due for release in January 2018. This new sentence will begin then.

He has 57 previous convictions including seven for assault causing harm, five for burglary, three for robbery, one for false imprisonment as well as public order and road traffic offences.

A Kerry man on a “drunken spree” who barged into the home of a vulnerable woman in the early hours of the morning and sexually assaulted her has been jailed for five years.

Shane Fitzgerald (26) wrote a letter to the court in which he said: “I am the first to agree I deserve a custodial sentence.” He said he could not believe what he had done but was ready to address his issues such as drink, drugs and anger management so nothing like this would happen again.

A Pakistani pizza delivery man who transferred €5,000 of stolen money out of Ireland has received a partially suspended sentence.

Atif Saeed (29) told gardai he believed he was assisting another man in paying university fees when he transferred the money which was discovered to be part of a €2.8 million online fraud.

Dublin Circuit Criminal Court heard Saeed was not involved in the online fraud and his guilty plea was entered on the basis of recklessness.

A teenager dangerously drove a stolen motor bike along Dublin city streets until he was boxed in by pursing garda patrol cars, a court has heard.

Ryan O’Driscoll (20), of St Mary’s Mansions in Dublin’s north inner city, pleaded guilty at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court to dangerous driving at Grace Park Road, Dublin 9 on March 6, 2015.

Judge Patricia Ryan sentenced O’Driscoll to three and half years imprisonment, which she backdated to February 20 last. She suspended the balance of the sentence and disqualified him from driving for four years.

A Mayo resident who has admitted theft of over €11,000 of equipment from a Castlebar takeaway will be sentenced at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court in November.

Yasir Ali (29) with an address at Waterside, Ballinrobe, Co Mayo, pleaded guilty to burglary at Thomas Street Takeaway, Thomas Street, Castlebar on May 18, 2015.

The equipment comprised a large commercial freezer, deep fat fryers, a commercial hot plate burger fryer, a medium freezer, microwave and food blender. Other items included stainless steel mixing bowls and mixing trays, a chip holder, two stainless steel tables and a food chopping board.

A Moldovan man who set fire to his former housemate’s door following a row about a missing mobile phone has been sentenced to three and half years.

Roman Vladislav (35) had previously made drunken threats to the residents after his phone went missing as he believed one of them had taken it. He returned to the house and set the fire after gardaí were called to a “commotion” at the house earlier that evening.

A man transporting drugs in his van in order to pay off a gambling debt was caught after a garda spotted him using his mobile phone while driving, a court had heard.

John O’Keefe (26) ran up gambling debts after falling into depression following the death of his father in 2011. He was to be paid €200 for transporting the drugs valued at over €7,000.

The bail conditions of former Anglo Irish Bank chief executive David Drumm have been varied ahead of his trial next year.

Mr Drumm (50) will now sign on three times a week – Monday, Wednesday and Friday – at Balbriggan Garda station. His previous bail conditions required him to sign on daily.

He is to give 24 hours notice if he wishes to sign on at a different station.

A woman who alleges her husband raped her on Christmas Day 2003 has told a jury that he attempted to reconcile with her afterwards but she could not get over what had happened.

The Central Criminal Court was told that “everything completely changed” and she could not trust her husband. The accused man later left the family home and the couple legally separated.

The man, who cannot be named for legal reasons, has pleaded not guilty to two counts of rape, one count of oral rape and one count of anal rape of the woman on December 25, 2003.
