The extradition case of a man suspected of being involved in a Provisional IRA mortar attack on a British army barracks in Germany in 1996 has been adjourned until the New Year.

James Anthony Oliver Albert Corry (46) was arrested in Killorglin, Co Kerry, in October on foot of a European Arrest Warrant issued by German authorities.

He appeared before the High Court today where his counsel, Anne-Marie Lawlor BL, requested time to submit affidavits. She said the facts of the case are complex and added that her affidavits would largely deal with Mr ….read more

A Dublin man charged with IRA membership has been released on bail at the Special Criminal Court in Dublin this morning.

Brian Kenna (54) was arrested in Co Laois on Saturday last by members of the Special Detective Unit as part of an ongoing operation targeting dissident republican activity.

Mr Kenna, of Crumlin Park, Crumlin is charged with membership of an unlawful organisation within the State, namely Oglaigh na hEireann, otherwise the Irish Republican Army, otherwise the IRA on November 21, 2015.

An ancient law that was dismissed as obsolete in Britain in 1967 was retained by the Irish Government in 2007 and bars a funding arrangement in a legal claim against Denis O’Brien, Michael Lowry and the Irish State, the High Court heard today.

Ms Justice Aileen Donnelly has been asked to decide whether an English company called Harbour Litigation Funding is entitled to fund another company, Persona Digital Telephony and Sigma Wireless Networks, in its claim in the Irish courts. Harbour will take part of the proceeds if Persona’s litigation is successful.

A drug addict who stabbed another man during an argument over heroin has been found guilty of murder by a jury at the Central Criminal Court.

Peter Jackson (41) of Kerryhall Road, Fairhill, Co Cork had pleaded not guilty to murder but guilty to manslaughter for the fatal stabbing of David Hamilton (31), at a house on Kerryhall Road on May 4 2012.

The jury of ten men and two women took nine hours and 54 minutes to come to their decision by a majority of 11 to one, having spent four days listening to evidence.

The jury at the trial of a drug addict accused of murdering another man during an argument over heroin was told it may return a majority verdict today.

Mr Peter Jackson (41) of Kerryhall Road, Fairhill, Co Cork has pleaded not guilty to murder but guilty to manslaughter for the fatal stabbing of David Hamilton (31), at a house on Kerryhall Road on May 4 2012.

After more than six hours of deliberations, Justice Isobel Kennedy told the jury of ten men and two women that if ten or eleven of them agree a verdict, that will suffice.

The trial at the Special Criminal Court in Dublin of prominent republican Thomas “Slab” Murphy for alleged tax evasion has been adjourned until next Tuesday.

Mr Murphy (66), of Ballybinaby, Hackballscross, Co Louth, has pleaded not guilty to nine charges alleging that he failed to furnish a return of his income, profits or gains or the source of his income, profits or gains to the Collector General or the Inspector of Taxes for the years 1996/97 to 2004.

James Anthony Oliver Albert Corry (46) was arrested in Killorglin, Co Kerry, last month on foot of a European Arrest Warrant issued by German authorities.

Mr Corry is suspected of being involved in a Provisional IRA attack in Osnabruck, Germany in 1996 in which three mortar shells were fired at a British army barracks.

Addicts sharing a bag of heroin became embroiled in a fatal argument when one failed to find a vein to inject the drug into the other, the Central Criminal Court heard today.

Peter Jackson, (41), formerly of Kerryhall Road, Fairhill, Co Cork has pleaded not guilty to murder, but guilty to the manslaughter of Wexford man David Hamilton (31), at a house on Kerryhall Road on May 4, 2012.

Prosecution counsel Thomas O’Connell (SC) told the jury of ten men and two women that the accused man was trying to inject Mr Hamilton having already injected heroin into himself.

A forensic accountant working for the Criminal Assets Bureau has told the trial of prominent republican Thomas “Slab” Murphy for alleged tax evasion that a ledger seized during the search of a shed on the border with Northern Ireland is a record of expenditure by Thomas Murphy.

The trial at the Special Criminal Court in Dublin has also heard Mr Murphy’s defence counsel claim that the ledger is a record of loans given by the accused man’s brother.
