A violent offender who raped a teenager with a mild intellectual disability after accosting her on the street at night, before falsely imprisoning her and raping her twice more in his home, has been jailed for six and a half years.

Costel Pirvu (39) formerly of Loughrea, Co Galway, was found guilty of three counts of rape and one of false imprisonment after a nine-day trial at the Central Criminal Court last year.

He continues to maintain his innocence.

A man beat, stripped and falsely imprisoned a fellow resident at a homeless shelter in an attack lasting over 90 minutes which was then posted to Snapchat, a court has heard.

Snapchat evidence was shown at Dublin Circuit Criminal court, where Lateef Lawal (24) was yesterday sentenced to three and a half years for his role in the attack.

Lawal pleaded guilty to false imprisonment and assault causing harm to Karl Duggan at the Peter McVerry Trust home where they both lived in Whitechurch Grove, Ballyboden, Dublin, on July 1, 2021.

A cannabis dealer who smashed up 21 doors at Citywest Hotel, causing over €7,000 worth of damage, left a “trail of absolute destruction” behind him, a court has heard.

Gerard Hughes (25) of Swiftbrook Park, Tallaght, was sentenced to a year in prison after he pleaded guilty to criminal damage at Citywest Hotel, Saggart, Co Dublin on September 5, 2018.

He was further handed a consecutive sentence of 18 months in custody for possessing cannabis for sale or supply at his home on March 1, 2021.

CAB officers seized an Audi Q7, more than €74,000 in cash and luxury goods including designer watches, sunglasses and clothing from the home of a couple who admitted to multiple counts of laundering crime cash, a court has heard.

€40,000 in cash was discovered hidden in a kitchen extractor fan, Dublin Circuit Criminal Court also heard.

Anthony McKeever (39) of Kilmartin Crescent, Tallaght, Dublin was sentenced to three and a half years in prison after he pleaded guilty to five counts of possessing the proceeds of crime at his home on dates between March 21, 2004 and July 26, 2020.

A 63-year-old man was caught with sexually explicit images of children on his laptop after a Facebook “inappropriate image” alert was triggered, a court has heard.

Aidan Scanlon told gardaí that he didn’t know he had the illegal images on his laptop in August 2016. Sentencing him today, Judge Martin Nolan suspended in full a prison term of one year saying he was “probably unlikely to reoffend”.

Scanlon pleaded guilty at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court to possessing five images of child pornography at his home on the Navan Road, on August 28, 2016.

A woman who was frequently sexually assaulted by her older brother over a two-year period in the 1970s addressed her abuser in court today, tell him: “You took my courage from me all those years ago. Today I take it back.”

Catherine Kirwan (57), who waived her anonymity so that her brother could be named, said she lived a life of “fear and dread” and that the abuse had influenced all her relationships, her marriage, every decision she makes and everything she does.

A man who kidnapped his ex-wife, drove her around the North for 24 hours to evade gardaí and threatened to kill them both has been sentenced to five years in prison.

William O’Donnell (24) told Brigid Reilly his life wasn’t worth living and that if he couldn’t have her, no one could. He said he would ruin her reputation within the Travelling community and that if she made a scene, he would drive them both “under a lorry”.

A father-of-three who was caught making an €18k drug drop while out walking with his newborn son has been jailed for two and a half years at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court.

Glen Guildea (28) of Barons Hall Grove, Balbriggan, Co Dublin pleaded guilty to possessing in total over €87,000 worth of cannabis, cocaine and ketamine for sale or supply on October 19, 2018.

The court heard that Guildea was walking beside his partner who was pushing a pram carrying their five-month old son at Westbrook Estate, Balbriggan when gardaí observed what they suspected was a drugs transaction.

A banned, drunk driver who rammed two patrol cars while leading gardaí on a high-speed chase on three tyres through two counties has been given a suspended sentence at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court.

The court heard that Mark Fox (29) was driving with only three tyres as the fourth wheel had none, causing sparks to fly from the rims as he was pursued by several patrol cars and a garda helicopter on May 9, 2021.

A man who admitted having over €63,000 from an invoice redirection fraud has walked from court with a suspended sentence.

Iheanyichukwu Banna (35) of Beechfield Close, Clonee, Dublin admitted that the money was transferred into his bank account on July 12, 2018, but told gardaí he had “no idea” where it came from.

Passing sentence at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court, Judge Martin Nolan said the offence could not have been carried out without Banna’s complicity and that the court could infer that he was “up to his neck in it”.
