A Dublin man has appeared before a Sunday sitting of the Special Criminal Court charged with membership of the IRA.

Brian Kenna (54) was arrested on Saturday afternoon by members of the Special Detective Unit as part of an ongoing operation targeting dissident republican activity.

Mr Kenna, of Crumlin Park, Crumlin is charged with membership of an unlawful organisation within the State, namely Oglaigh na hEireann, otherwise the Irish Republican Army, otherwise the IRA on November 21, 2015.

Three men have appeared before the non-jury Special Criminal Court this morning charged with IRA membership and firearms offences.

Conor Hughes (38), Darren Fox (26), and Jamie Smithers (36) were arrested in the early hours of Hallowe’en morning by members of the Special Detective Unit investigating dissident republican activity in County Limerick.

Mr Hughes, of Goatstown Close, Goatstown, Co Dublin Mr Fox, of Coolevin, Ballybrack, Co Dublin and Mr Smithers, of St Patrick’s Park, Tullow, Co Carlow are each charged with membership of an unlawful organisation within the State styling itself the Irish Republican Army, otherwise Oglaigh na hEireann, otherwise the IRA, ….read more

A Belfast man wanted in connection with a Provisional IRA mortar attack on a British army barracks in Germany in 1996 has been granted bail at the High Court.

James Anthony Oliver Albert Corry (46) was arrested in Killorglin, Co Kerry on Friday on foot of a European Arrest Warrant issued by German authorities.

Mr Corry is suspected of being involved in a Provisional IRA attack in Osnabruck, Germany in 1996 in which three mortar shells were fired at a British army barracks.

Belfast man Kevin Hannaway, part of a group known as the “Hooded Men” who are seeking revision of a controversial judgement on their detention during the troubles, has appeared before the Special Criminal Court this evening charged with assisting the IRA.

Mr Hannaway (67) and four co-accused were arrested on Saturday afternoon as part of an operation targeting dissident republican activity in the Dublin Region, led by the garda Special Detective Unit, Emergency Response Unit and Crime and Security Branch.

A man has pleaded guilty at the Special Criminal Court to the possession of two Improvised Explosive Devices in Co Meath last year.

Brian Fitzpatrick (49) of Castleross, Dundalk, Co Louth, was charged with two counts of possession of an explosive substance under suspicious circumstances on December 16th, 2014 at Mitchelstown Cross, Castletown, Navan, Co. Meath.

The substances he was alleged to have had possession of were two complete Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs).

On Friday at the non-jury court Mr Fitzpatrick pleaded guilty to the charge.

A Louth man has pleaded guilty at the Special Criminal Court to the possession of explosives last year.

David Gallagher (38) was arrested along with his co-accused Gareth Mulley (45) and another man in May last year after a garda operation against dissident republicans in the Co Louth area involving the Crime and Security Branch and the Special Detective Unit.

Mr Gallagher was charged with the unlawful possession of the explosive substances PETN and RDX, an adapted 50 litre beer keg, 50 kg of ammonium nitrate homemade explosive, an improvised detonation cord, an improvised steel booster tube and an improvised time and ….read more

A Louth man has been jailed for 10 years after he was found guilty of the possession of a large car bomb by the Special Criminal Court.

The non-jury court today found Gareth Mulley (45) guilty of possession of the device, which was intercepted near the border last year and was destined for Northern Ireland.

A man has appeared before a late night sitting of the Special Criminal Court tonight charged with membership of the IRA.

Ryan Glennon (24) was arrested this morning by members of the Special Detective Unit as part of an ongoing operation in to dissident republican activity in the Dublin area.

Mr Glennon, of Macken Villas, Macken Street, Dublin 2 is charged with membership of an unlawful organisation within the State, namely Oglaigh na hEireann, otherwise the Irish Republican Army, otherwise the IRA on May 13, 2015.

A Louth man has appeared before an out-of-hours sitting of the Special Criminal Court tonight charged with possession of firearms and ammunition.

Joseph Finnegan (53) was arrested in Co Louth on Saturday night by members of the Special Detective Unit as part of ongoing investigations in to the activities of dissident republicans.

Mr Finnegan, of Cuillenstown, Readypenny, Dundalk, Co Louth is charged with possession of one 8mm calibre, Valtro make, Model 85 combat, converted blank-firing pistol and seven rounds of 8mm ammunition at his home on July 11, 2015.
