A burglar who sat down to have scrambled eggs with his victim after lunging at the man with a knife and stealing his phones will be sentenced next month.

Stefan Boyle (28) was spotted by Ali Yassine hiding under a table in a mosque and was told to leave. Boyle then lunged at him with a knife, nicking the victim before he tried to escape out a window.

A heroin addict who was so desperate for cash that he tried to rob his local shop and pharmacy will be sentenced next July.

Daniel Weldon (31) was also so intoxicated that he left “a trail of money in his wake” from another raid that same day. His attempts at robbery failed both times when the shop owners refused to give him anything.

Weldon was instantly recognised by the first shopkeeper when he went in armed with what she described as a “black handled carving knife” and demanded money from the till.

A heroin addict who robbed his local credit union by threatening to set staff staff on fire has been jailed for five years.

Gary Gregg (28) grabbed a supervisor by the neck and told her he was pouring fuel over her to set her on fire.

The woman tasted what she believed was either perfume or petrol in her mouth when Gregg poured liquid out of a canister over the top of her head. He held a lighter in his hand and shouted “Give me the money. I’ve a lighter here and fuel and I am going to set you on fire”.

A man who stole almost €8,000 from his own bank account after it held funds that didn’t belong to him has avoided jail.

Conor McKee (26) withdrew cash in three different locations because he was worried he would be caught. He said he hadn’t used his account in six months and then noticed that a large amount of cash had been lodged into it.

He acknowledged in interview that he knew the money wasn’t his and wondered where it had come from. “I had no money and it appeared in my account,” McKee told gardaí. He said he didn’t know anyone else ….read more

A man will be sentenced next week for anal rape and sexual abuse of his four nieces over a ten year period.

William Mannion (49) has a previous conviction from 1997 of unlawful carnal knowledge of a 14 year old. This case was prosecuted after the young girl became pregnant.

He was on bail waiting trial for his abuse of the four victims when he pleaded guilty in January.

A man who agreed to transport almost €80,000 worth of cannabis has been jailed for three and a half years.

Michael Breen (41) was stopped in his car by gardaí following a tip off. The vehicle was searched and almost four kilogrammes of cannabis was found under the carpet in the wheel well.

Breen of Harlem Court, Old Court Road, Dublin pleaded guilty at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court to having the drugs worth €79,480 for sale on supply at Bluebell Mews, Old Naas Road, Dublin 12 on May 16, 2016.

A manager at Xtravision who tapped into dormant customer accounts and stole over €10,000 by giving himself the credit that was owed has avoided a jail term.

Noel Carroll (27) took the credit by creating a gift card for that amount that he could later deposit in a savings account and withdraw as cash. He also issued himself vouchers which he used to buy various items including a television, laptop and computer in different Xtravision branches.

A court has heard that drug dealers used the home of a vulnerable intellectually disabled man to stash just under €100,000 worth of ecstasy tablets.

John Freer (43) was living in “diabolic personal circumstances”, Michael Bowman SC, defending told Dublin Circuit Criminal Court.

“His one friend in the world was his dog,” Mr Bowman continued before he added that Freer’s home had no cooker and no fridge.

Mr Bowman told the court that Freer never left his mother’s side as a child and a teenager. She went into hospital when he was 17 years old and never came home. She died when he ….read more

A Dublin father of six who “hoodwinked” an 82-year-old woman with early on-set dementia by taking €2,250 for roofing work he never carried out has avoided a jail term.

John Connors (36) of Wyckham Avenue, Dundrum pleaded guilty at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court to theft of €2,250 at the woman’s home in Carpenterstown, Dublin on February 19, 2016. He has three previous convictions for assault and public order.

Judge Martin Nolan sentenced Connors to three years in prison, which he suspended in full on strict conditions. He said it was a serious crime as Connors had “hoodwinked and defrauded an elderly lady”.

A man who agreed to hold almost €210,000 worth of cocaine before transporting it has been jailed for three years.

Craig Buckley (27) of Curlew Road, Drimnagh, Dublin pleaded guilty at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court to having just under 3Kg of cocaine for sale or supply on the Old Nangor Road, Clondalkin on June 11, 2016. He has no previous convictions.

Judge Martin Nolan said the harm that cocaine did was “well known” but said he was taking into account that Buckley was a hard working man and useful to society.
