A banned roads offender has been fined after giving gardaí a false address when they responded to a traffic collision in Tallaght.

Kevi Kabeya (35), of Highfield West, College Road, Cork, pleaded guilty at Tallaght District Court to providing false information to a Garda and failing to produce a driving licence.

The court heard the incident happened on 30 October last on Brookview Avenue, Tallaght, where gardaí attended at the scene of a collision involving a blue Mercedes vehicle driven by Kabeya.

He gave a false address when required to provide his correct details under section 107 of the Road Traffic Act, and also failed to produce a driving licence when requested under section 40.

Kabeya was a banned driver at the time, having previously been disqualified by Cork Circuit Court following no-insurance and no-licence matters.

The court heard that Kabeya has 18 previous convictions, including public-order and criminal-damage offences, as well as nine Road Traffic Act convictions in total.

His most recent road-traffic conviction was for having no insurance and no licence from April 2024, for which he was convicted in September that year.

His solicitor, Mr Kevin Tunney, told the court Kabeya had not intended to deceive gardaí, and said he had been unsure of his address at the time. He said Kabeya works in construction and pays €160 per week in rent.

Judge Áine Clancy convicted Kabeya and fined him €300 for failing to produce his licence, with six months to pay, and €500 for providing false details, with 12 months to pay.
