A Limerick biker will be sentenced to life in prison in October, after being found guilty of murdering a member of a rival motorcycle club two years ago.

Alan ‘Cookie McNamara, a 51-year-old from Mountfune, Murroe, Co Limerick had pleaded not guilty to the murder of Andrew ‘AOD’ O’Donoghue at the gates of the Road Tramps motorcycle club at Mountfune on June 20, 2015.

The jury delivered a unanimous verdict to the Central Criminal Court this afternoon.

A Limerick man who had his conviction for murdering his partner quashed, and was subsequently jailed for her manslaughter, is allegedly not complying with the terms of his suspended sentence, the
Central Criminal Court has heard.

On foot of his guilty plea to manslaughter which was accepted by the State, Kieran Lynch (50) was sentenced last year to 12 years imprisonment with four suspended for her manslaughter but had already served his time.

Lynch was sentenced to life in prison in March 2007, after a Central Criminal Court jury found him guilty of the murder of 36-year-old Catherine McEnery.

A Dublin man who raped his 14-year-old niece twice in her bed when she was living with him has been jailed for eight years.

In a victim impact statement handed in to court, the now-19-year-old victim said she would never trust another person like she had trusted her uncle. She said she bottled up what he did to her for years.

“I looked at the world like it was a dull, horrible place and I would be better off dead,” she said.

A woman who was raped by a man who purported to come to her aid after she got lost on a night out in Dublin says she is now a “broken person”.

In a victim impact statement read out in the Central Criminal Court today, the married mother described how she suffers from panic attacks and depression since she was raped by Mohamed Okda while on a night out in Dublin city in 2014.

The jury in the trial of a biker accused of murdering a member of a rival motorcycle club will return to the Central Criminal Court on Monday to consider their verdict.

Having spent 45 minutes deliberating this afternoon, the seven men and four women told Justice Paul McDermott that they wanted to go home for the weekend.

They had earlier heard from Justice McDermott that their task is to to decide if the accused was acting in defence of himself and his family or in retaliation after he was assaulted and threatened.

A 33-year-old man, accused of raping a woman in the grounds of a Carlow castle, has been refused bail by the Central Criminal Court.

The accused, who cannot be named for legal reasons, is charged with the rape and assault of the woman in her 50s at Pollerton Castle in the town in the early hours of June 25th last.

He had applied to the court for bail today, having been denied bail at the District Court.

A biker who shot a member of a rival motorcycle club dead saw an opportunity for retribution and murdered an innocent man, a barrister told a jury at the Central Criminal Court today.

The accused man’s barrister said his client was acting in defence of himself and his family after members of the rival club threatened to kill him and burn down his home.

A Galway man who raped his daughter and threatened to kill her mother with a shotgun if she told anyone about the incident will be sentenced next November.

The man (65), who cannot be identified to protect his daughter’s anonymity, had denied a single count of rape and six counts of sexual assault occurring on dates between August 1991 and August 1993.

After a trial at the Central Criminal Court a jury returned unanimous guilty verdicts on all charges. The jury had spent just under three hours in deliberations.

A 30-year-old Mayo man has been sentenced to life in prison for the double murder of two elderly brothers with special needs in their Mayo home. He had bludgeoned them with a shovel and one of their walking sticks.

Alan Cawley of Four Winds, Corrinbla, Ballina, Co Mayo had admitted killing Thomas Blaine (69) and John (Jack) Blaine (76).

However, he had pleaded not guilty to murdering them on 10th July 2013 at New Antrim Street in Castlebar. He had argued that he had three mental disorders that had diminished his responsibility and was therefore entitled to a manslaughter verdict.

Gardai found a mobile phone associated with a murder accused that had been broken and left on waste ground, a trial has heard at the Central Criminal Court.

Alan ‘Cookie’ McNamara, (51),from Mountfune, Murroe, Co Limerick has pleaded not guilty to the murder of Andrew ‘AOD’ O’Donoghue on Saturday June 20, 2015 at the Road Tramps motorcycle clubhouse at Mountfune.
