Dublin City Council has launched High Court proceedings aimed at closing down a large city centre based bar/restaurant until the premises complies with building regulations.

The action has been brought in relation to ‘Roberta’s’ restaurant and bar, which is located on the first floor of Dollard House at Wellington Quay and Essex Street East Dublin 2.

DCC claims the restaurant exposes its staff and customers to an unacceptable and unnecessary risk by acting in clear disregard of building control requirements.

DCC wants the bar/restaurant to cease operating until a number of mandatory steps are taken.

An Irish man described by the FBI as the world’s ‘largest facilitator of child pornography’ is making a legal bid aimed at halting his extradition to the United States.

Eric Eoin Marques, who is alleged to be the owner and administrator of an anonymous hosting site known as Freedom Hosting, is wanted by the US authorities to face charges relating to conspiring to distribute and advertise child pornography and advertising and distributing child pornography.

A High Court judge has expressed concerns about “foreign owned funds” citing fire safety issues when seeking to put people out of their homes immediately.

The remarks were made by Mr Justice Paul Gilligan at Friday’s sitting of the High Court.

The judge made his comments after an action brought by a fund, Targeted Investment Opportunities ICAV (TIO), against a young couple Mr Sean O’Nuanain and Ms Melanie Mook was briefly mentioned before the court.

The fund seeks various orders against the couple including an injunction preventing them from trespassing or occupying premises situated at 85-86 Barrack Street, Cork.

The High Court has appointed a provisional liquidator to a company that makes and sells cake decorations and baking products.

Dublin City Council sought an order winding up Decobake Limited, which has operated a store at Bachelor’s Walk for several years, over its alleged failure to pay a commercial rates bill of approximately €102,000.

DCC said that a provisional liquidator should be appointed because the company is insolvent and unable to pay its debts and to ensure Decobake’s assets are not put out of reach of its creditors.

The High Court has appointed a provisional liquidator to the publisher of four weekly newspapers that circulate in Co Wexford.

The court was told the provisional liquidator Mr Kieran Wallace will keep the Wexford Echo, Gorey Echo, New Ross Echo and the Enniscorthy Echo open in the hope that a buyer for the titles can be found.

The four titles, which are owned by Wexford Echo Limited, employ a total of 30 people involved in journalism, advertising and sales, sub-editing, page production, finance and management.

A dispute between two waste management companies over the collection of bins in Waterford City has come before the High Court.

The action has been brought Oxigen Environmental Unlimited Company against a rival firm, Kollect on Demand Ltd.

In its action, Oxigen says that in 2016 it noticed that some of its bins were being collected by the defendant company. After it had complained about this action, it says it received written undertakings from the defendant that it would not use Oxigen’s bins.

A 26-year-old man charged with the murder of Noel Kirwan has been refused bail by the High Court today.

Jason Keating, of Lower Main Street, Rush, Co. Dublin is charged with the murder of Noel Kirwan (62) outside his house at St Ronan’s Drive, Clondalkin, Dublin 22 on December 22, 2016.

Mr Keating had sought bail in the High Court today. However, the State objected to the application.

Inspector Mark O’Neill told the court he believed that if released on bail, Mr Keating would commit further offences and might not stand trial.

Northern Irish authorities are seeking the surrender of two Dublin men for allegedly attempting to murder a PSNI officer with an improvised explosive device beneath a car.

Kieran Maguire (29), of Kippure Park, Finglas South and Sean Paul Farrell (32), of Stannaway Road, Kimmage, are wanted by Northern Irish authorities for alleged attempted murder and possession of explosives. Both men face life imprisonment on both counts if found guilty.

A business partnership involving broadcaster Gay Byrne has settled its Commercial Court dispute against a financial fund over loan repayments on an investment property in central Dublin.

The Firstwood Partnership had brought proceedings against Launceston Property Finance concerning a property containing a block of offices, retail units and car park at St Andrew’s Lane in Dublin 2.

The fund in 2014 acquired a loan which the partnership had taken out in 2000 with Anglo Irish Bank to acquire the property. The loan is due to expire in 2020.

Ryanair has been joined to legal actions over the extension of planning permission for the development of a new €320m runway at Dublin Airport.

Ryanair wanted to become a party to the actions because its says that any further expansion by the airline in Dublin will be limited without the infrastructure of the new runway.

The actions have been brought by the Friends of the Irish Environment Group and by 22 individual residents – most with addresses at Kilreesk Lane, St Margaret’s, Co Dublin – against Fingal County Council’s decision of March 7th last to extend a planning permission for ….read more
