Mother-of-six wanted to serve 20-year sentence in Italy brought before extradition court two days after husband

A mother of six has been arrested at her Dublin home on suspicion of being a fugitive drug importer in Italy, where she is wanted to serve a 20-year sentence imposed in her absence.

Aisha Ahmed (49) was brought before the High Court today on foot of a European Arrest Warrant issued by the Italian authorities, who have been looking for the Nigerian native for several years.

It comes just two days after her husband, Yemi Moshood Olatunde, was arrested and brought before the court in similar circumstances.

Community Service for man who told garda he would "bite her face off" and slammed her in to shop front

An Offaly man who slammed a garda into a shop front has been given community service in lieu of a prison sentence.

Garda Lucy McLoughlin required two operations and missed 18 months of work after the attack by Enda Carroll (23) on William Street in Tullamore.

Carroll, of The Willows, Mucklagh, Tullamore, was found guilty after a trial at Cavan Circuit Criminal Court of assault causing harm, resisting a peace officer and two counts of public order in the Offaly town on March 12, 2012.

Paramedic witnessed deceased being kicked in the head, murder trial hears

A paramedic has told the trial of a 40-year-old, who admits killing a Polish man in Co. Clare last year but denies murdering him, that he saw the deceased being kicked in the head.

Michael Maughan of Stone Court, Ennis pleaded not guilty to murder but guilty to the manslaughter of Piotr Nowakowski (31) at Sandfield Mews, Ennis on July 23, 2013.

The Central Criminal Court was told the court the manslaughter plea was not acceptable to the prosecution.

The accused has also pleaded not guilty to assaulting Declan O’Dea at the same address on the same date.

A Sligo born man suffered severe burns to his hands and feet while trying to steal copper wiring and lead flashing from an ESB sub station.

Drug addict Jamie Gordon (26) also suffered severe internal injuries during the burglary.

He caused just over €10,000 worth of damage to the power station in Inchicore, Dublin and left four thousand houses in the area without power for up to a minute.

Gordon, of Haven House Hostel, Dublin pleaded guilty at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court to trespassing with intent to commit an offence in the vicinity of a building at ESB substation on the ….read more

Bailsman loses €10,000 over murder accused who absconded during trial

A Louth man, who put up bail for a murder accused, has lost €10,000 after the accused man absconded during his trial.

Paul Callan had provided a €20,000 surety for his business associate when he was charged with murder in 2013. He also allowed the accused to live with him.

Vesel Jahiri was charged with murdering his former partner, Anna Finnegan (25), at Allendale Glen, Clonsilla in Dublin on September 21, 2012. She died of a single stab wound.

A sixth-year student on his way home from school saw a man with a gun stretch out his arm before two to three shots were heard in quick succession, the trial of three men charged with murdering dissident republican Peter Butterly has heard.

Dean Evans (24), of Grange Park Rise, Raheny, Edward McGrath (33) of Land Dale Lawns, Springfield Tallaght and Sharif Kelly (44), of Pinewood Green Road, Balbriggan have pleaded not guilty to the murder of dissident republican Peter Butterly (35) who was shot dead in the car park of the Huntsman Inn, at Gormanston Co Meath on March 6 ….read more
