Water meter action struck out

A Co Meath man’s High Court action aimed at preventing Irish water from installing a water meter on his property has been resolved.

Last month Mr William Anthony Rochford (46) secured a number of temporary High Court injunctions arising out of his concern that inferior containers or covering for the water meters were being installed by Irish Water.

In proceedings against the Irish Water he claimed the housing component, container or the covering of the water meter it was intended to place on his property is “not fit for purpose,” and may give rise to injury loss and damage.

Drunk men caught shoplifting on one of their birthdays get jail term and suspended sentence

A MAN has been given a jail sentence and a second man given a suspended sentence after they were caught shoplifting while they were drunk on one of their birthdays.

John Budgie McDonagh (42) and Owen McDonagh (48) were caught stealing shoes, a leather jacket and tools at TK Max at The Pavilions in Swords on Owen’s birthday.

The junior doctor on call at the hospital where one patient allegedly murdered another in his bed was about to finish a 77-hour shift when the body was discovered, a court was told today.

Ian Harman (50), of Carrickallen, Mountain Lodge, Cootehill, Co Cavan, has pleaded not guilty at the Central Criminal Court to the murder of Michael Treanor at the Psychiatric Unit of Cavan General Hospital, Lisdarn, Co Cavan, on June 27, 2011.

Father who abused daughters fails to have appeal referred to Supreme Court

A man convicted of sexually abusing his two daughters in the 1970′s and 80′s has failed in his bid to have his appeal against his conviction considered by the Supreme Court.

In its ruling today the three judge court said the man, who cannot be named in order to protect his daughters, said the man had not raised a point of law of significant public importance that would allow it refer the case to the Supreme Court.

Case against man charged with possession of explosives at Finnstown House adjourned

The case against a 55-year-old man charged with the possession of explosives at Finnstown House Hotel in May has been adjourned until the beginning of the next court term.

Samuel Devlin, who is originally from Co Tyrone but has lived in Dublin for a number of years, was charged before the non-jury Special Criminal Court after his arrest by members of the Special Detective Unit.

Mr Devlin, with an address at Golf Suite, Finnstown House Hotel, Lucan, Co Dublin is charged with the unlawful possession of the explosive substance Pentaerythritol Tetranitrate (PETN) at the same address on May 11, 2014.

CFA launches challenge to judge's direction placing child in care of parents

The Child and Family Agency (CFA) has launched a High Court challenge to a District Court Judge’s decision to direct it to place a child neglected by her mother into the care of the child’s parents.

In late June the agency sought an interim care order in respect of a young girl who has missed more than half of her school days in the last three years.
