Woman who lay drunk at blind bend on road blames "night out with the girls"

A JUDGE asked a woman, who was intoxicated and lying on a blind bend on a road, did she have a ‘death wish’ after a court heard a car had stopped three feet away from her.

Gillian Dunphy blamed a ‘night out with the girls’ and ‘too many shots’ for causing her to be lying on the road.

Dunphy also told the court that ‘the air hit me’ and that had no recollection of the incident.

Dunphy (35) of Dun Eimear Way in Lusk pleaded guilty to being intoxicated and being a danger to herself and others at Barrack Lane ….read more

Bail money put up by father of body-in-suitcase suspect is forfeited

The High Court has estreated part of the bail put up by the father of a Dublin man wanted by Dutch authorities in connection with the discovery of a dismembered body in an Amsterdam canal.

Dutch authorities have sought the surrender of Kenneth Brunell (27) from Palmerstown who was arrested by gardaí on foot of extradition warrants issued in 2011.

The 27-year-old is wanted to face trial in connection with the death of Keith Ennis (29) from Walkinstown, whose dismembered body was found in an Amsterdam canal in 2009. Mr Ennis was on the run from gardaí at the time.

Man twice arrested for IRA membership in the space of four months refused bail

A Dublin man who was arrested for membership of the IRA while out on bail on an earlier charge of IRA membership has been refused bail by the Special Criminal Court.

Declan Phelan (32), of Lanndale Lawns, Tallaght was among eight men brought before the non-jury court and charged with membership of an unlawful organisation within the State namely Oglaigh na hEireann, otherwise the Irish Republican Army, otherwise the IRA on March 29, 2013.

Man did not realise bicyle he bought was stolen

A MAN who claimed he bought a bicycle from an acquaintance said he did not realise the bicycle was stolen.

Keith Daly also paid €60 to have the bicycle fixed to put it back into good condition, Balbriggan District Court heard.

Daly (21) of Papworth Hall, George’s Hill in Balbriggan pleaded guilty to handling stolen property, namely a red Carrera mountain bike valued at €600 at Drogheda Street in the town on August 23rd.

Trade Union gives undertakings to court over Lucan school picket

The trade union Unite and several of its members have given undertakings before the High Court not to engage in activity including intimidation, harassment or blocking entrances to and from building sites operated by construction firm JJ Rhatigan.

The building company sought injunctions against Unite, two of its officials, and several members because it claims since a picket was mounted at the site where it is building a new school at Kishoge, Lucan by members of Unite, vehicles have been blocked when attempting to enter or leave the premises.

Lawyers for for three men charged with murdering dissident republican Peter Butterly would have discovered by now whether or not their former co-accused turned prosecution witness was ever a garda informant, the Special Criminal Court has heard.

Edward McGrath (32), of Land Dale Lawns, Springfield, Tallaght, Dean Evans (22), of Grange Park Rise, Raheny, and Sharif Kelly (43) of Pinewood Green Road, Balbriggan have pleaded not guilty to the murder of Peter Butterly (35), who was shot dead in the car park of the Huntsman Inn at Gormanston, Co Meath, on March 6th, 2013.
