Mother who punched store detective avoids prison

A MOTHER-of-one who assaulted a store detective while attempted to steal items from a hardware store has avoided jail after she was handed a two month suspended sentence.

Janina Griskevica (54) of The Rise, Melrose Park in Kinsealy pleaded guilty before Swords District Court assaulting David Ellison, being in possession of a pocket knife and stealing nearly €50 worth of goods from Woodies DIY, Seatown Road in Swords on August 25th.

Griskevica had claimed she had the pocket knife for work for opening boxes. She also claimed she had not intended to steal the items but had thought she left her wallet ….read more

Man pleads not guilty to cultivating cannabis plants

A MAN who has pleaded not guilty to cultivation of cannabis plants and being in possession of cannabis herb was remanded on continuing bail at Swords District Court.

Wayne Reid (34) of Valley View in Swords has pleaded not guilty to cultivating two cannabis plants valued at €1,600 and being in possession of cannabis herb for sale or supply valued at €1,000 at his home address on April 11th.

Judge Alan Mitchell accepted jurisdiction of the case and remanded Reid to re-appear before the court on December 16th when the case will be heard.

Man wanted in North on terrorism charges further remanded

The case of a 24-year-old man wanted in Northern Ireland on terrorism charges has been adjourned for three weeks.

Ryan McKenna is wanted by authorities in the United Kingdom to face charges relating to conspiracy to cause an explosion, the possession of explosives with intent to endanger life and the possession of explosives in Lurgan, Co Armagh in 2007.

The court was told that Mr McKenna was arrested at Cross, Co Mayo on September 9 last on foot of a European Arrest Warrant endorsed in August.

It also heard that the Lurgan native’s three co-accused had already pleaded guilty to the offences.

Man who assaulted garda gets banned from licensed premises

A CHRONIC alcoholic who assaulted a garda has avoided a prison sentence but has been barred from any premises licenced to sell alcohol in the Dublin area for one year.

Father-of-two David Lee was given a four month suspended sentence for assaulting Garda Shane Haughney.

Lee had pulled Garda Haughney over a number of tables in a public house before picking up an object and striking the garda over the head, causing a laceration, following an earlier incident at a house, Swords District Court heard.

“Largest facilitator of child porn in the world” further remanded for two weeks

The case of an Irishman wanted in the US, who was described by an FBI Special Agent as “the largest facilitator of child porn in the world”, has been adjourned for two weeks.

Eric Eoin Marques (28), who is wanted in the United States on charges relating to conspiring to distribute and advertise child pornography, and advertising and distributing child pornography is fighting his extradition and wants to have his case dealt with here.

The charges against Mr Marques, with an address at Mountjoy Square in central Dublin, relate to images on over a hundred “anonymous websites” described as being extremely violent, ….read more

Eight IRA accused may not stand trial until 2015

Eight Dublin men accused of membership of the IRA may not go on trial at the Special Criminal Court until 2015.

The men were arrested on Good Friday after a search of a commercial premises in Clondalkin as part of an on-going garda investigation in to the activities of dissident republicans.
