Man charged in connection with garda surveillance operation admits taking photos

A man charged in connection with an alleged surveillance operation on the Dublin headquarters of a number of specialist garda units has admitted taking photos of the complex after renting a room in an overlooking hotel.

Corey Mulhall (41) was arrested in September 2012 after detectives observed suspicious activity at a hotel close to Harcourt Square. The Harcourt Square building is home to the Special Detective Unit, whose tasks include monitoring the activities of dissident republicans.

Melanie McNamara murder accused admits writing cell wall graffiti

The teenager charged with murdering Melanie McCarthy McNamara has admitted writing graffiti on his cell wall, which the State says bragged about killing her.

Graffiti including: “2 in the head. The bitch is dead” was found on Daniel McDonnell’s cell wall while he was detained at a Garda station on suspicion of her murder.

Counsel for the 19-year-old made the admission on behalf of his client ytoday on the third day of his trial at the Central Criminal Court.

Mr McDonnell of Brookview Lawns in Tallaght has pleaded not guilty to murdering the 16-year-old on February 8th 2012 at nearby Brookview Way. She ….read more

A mother whose father was murdered in front of her young daughter failed to appear before Balbriggan District Court as her children started counselling on the same day.

Jade Gannon (30) of Mourne Park in Skerries was not present before the court to answer charges of criminal damage at Mourne Park on March 3rd, 2012, having no insurance at Balbriggan Street, Skerries on September 13th, 2012 and being intoxicated, using threatening and abusive behaviour and failing to pay a taxi fare at ….read more

Sicilian charged with murder of Tom O'Gorman absent from court hearing

AN Italian man accused of the murder of well known pro-life campaigner and religious writer Tom O’Gorman at his north Dublin home could not come to court today.

Judge Victor Blake further remanded him in his absence after he was told that 34-year-old Saverio Bellante would not be present for his hearing at Cloverhill District Court.

He was furnished with a letter from Dr Paul O’Connell at the Central Mental Hospital and adjourned the case for two weeks, until January 31, while gardai are preparing their investigation file.

Probation Act for curate who stole parish funds to hold social evenings

A CURATE who stole €4,000 from a church’s collections to hold social evenings for parishioners has been given the benefit of the Probation Act after a court heard he paid the money back.

Fr James Kenny, who was appointed to the parish of Skerries, Co Dublin last year, started taking the money after a dispute broke out between him and the parish priest. Fr Kenny wanted to hold social evenings for parishioners but it was difficult to get the parish priest’s consent for this.

Man who assaulted woman in a graveyard remanded on continuing bail

A MAN who assaulted a woman in a graveyard fracturing her nasal bone has been remanded on continuing bail for a Probation & Welfare Report.

David Donnelly also caused criminal damage to a pub window before making threatening phone calls to his victim’s father.

David Donnelly (20) of Tanners Way in Lusk pleaded guilty to assault causing harm to Jennifer Coffey in Lusk graveyard on August 5th, 2012. He further pleaded guilty to making threatening and aggressive phone calls to Michael Coffey on April 6th, 2013 and smashing a window at The Strand Bar in Skerries on the same date.
