Court orders return of jeep bought with fake bank draft

A COURT has ordered that a jeep a man sold on the internet to another man who used a fraudulent bank draft be returned to him.

However, a second man who thought he had legitimately bought the jeep from the ‘conman’, lost the €8,750 he paid for the vehicle.

Brendan Dempsey of St Catherine’s Road in Rush brought the case before Balbriggan District Court to have his jeep returned to him under the Police Property Act.

Murder accused and deceased had mental health problems

A Wexford man on trial for murder had a past history of schizophrenia while the man he is accused of murdering also had mental health problems, a jury has heard.

Michael Furlong (36) of Meadowfield, The Moyne, Enniscorthy has pleaded not guilty at the Central Criminal Court to the murder of Patrick Connors (37) between April 28th and April 29th 2011 at Carraig Túr apartments in the town.

Giving evidence on the third day of the trial, witness Shauna Young told prosecution counsel Mr John O’Kelly SC that she had been in a relationship with Mr Connors and was engaged to him ….read more

Notorious child rapist to apply for bail

Notorious Dublin criminal and serial child abuser Stephen “Rossi” Walsh will apply for bail pending appeals against his separate convictions for rape, indecent assault and defilement of a child.

Walsh (65) formerly of Belgrave Road, Rathgar in Dublin, is currently serving a 10-year sentence imposed by Mr Justice Paul Carney in February 2010 for raping a nine-year-old girl twenty years ago.

In November 2010 Judge Patrick McCartan imposed a consecutive three-year sentence on Walsh for indecently assaulting a seven-year-old girl in 1988, while in December 2011 Walsh received another consecutive 12-year sentence for sexual assault and defilement of a child on dates in 2008 ….read more

A MAN who pleaded guilty to assaulting a woman causing her harm has been remanded on continuing bail for a medical report.

David Donnelly (20) of Kelly Park in Lusk, Co Dublin pleaded guilty before Balbriggan District Court to the offence at Old Graveyard in Lusk on August 5th.

Judge Dermot Dempsey accepted jurisdiction after he was informed that the Director of Public Prosecution directs summary disposal on a guilty plea only.

Donnelly’s solicitor requested an adjournment to have a medical report compiled on Donnelly.

Judge Dempsey remanded Donnelly on continuing bail to allow for the preparation of a medical report and for the ….read more

A Wexford murder trial has heard that the emergency services were turned away from an Enniscorthy building the night before a 37-year-old man was found dead there.

The Central Criminal Court was hearing evidence today in the trial of a 36-year-old man, charged with murdering his friend more than two years ago.

Three Limerick men have gone on trial at the Central Criminal Court charged in connection with the death of a 43-year-old man in the city last year.

Seán Flanagan (28) and Paul Colbert (46) both of Lenihan Avenue, Prospect, Limerick have pleaded not guilty to murdering Gerard McMahon at a house on Lenihan Avenue on January 18, 2012.

Ian Flanagan (24) of the same address has pleaded not guilty to two counts of assisting an offender on the same date. The accusation against him is that he removed a CCTV recording device from their house, knowing it might form evidence in a ….read more
