GSOC drop investigation of garda acquitted of assault

A Garda who was acquitted of assaulting a teenager will not be the subject of a fresh investigation into the incident by the Garda Ombudsman, the High Court has heard.

Garda Brendan Dowling who is stationed at Anglesea Garda Station Cork City launched a High Court action against the Garda Síochána Ombudsman commission after it decided to re-investigate him arising out of the arrest of a then 16 year old boy in Cork City two years ago.

Tipperary murder trial in legal argument

The trial of a man charged with murdering 29-year-old Shane Rossiter is continuing in legal argument.

Maurice “Mossy” Power (31) of Dranganbeg, Kilmoyler, Cahir has pleaded not guilty at the Central Criminal Court to murdering Mr Rossiter in Co. Tipperary on October 17, 2012.

The prosecution alleges the accused fired two shots at Mr Rossiter causing him catastrophic injuries, which lead to his death.

The trial is dealing with legal issues and will not resume in evidence before Thursday.

Claim that mum-of-two was fatally injured trying to stop brother from attacking accused “ridiculous”, jury hears

Claims that a 25 year old mother-of-two was fatally injured when she tried to stop her brother from attacking the accused, were “ridiculous,” a jury has heard.

Vesel Jahiri, of Louth Village, Dundalk but originally from Kosovo, has pleaded not guilty to murdering Anna Finnegan at Allendale Glen, Clonsilla, Dublin 15 on September 21 2012.

Mr Jahiri (33) old has also pleaded not guilty to assault causing harm on Anna Finnegan’s brother, Karl, on the same date.

Widow unable to recover six figure sum awarded for workplace accident

A widow unable to recover a six figure award she received arising out of her husband’s death in a workplace accident is not entitled to a payment out of the state backed Insurance Compensation Fund, the High Court has heard.

Helen Guiney was awarded more than €790,000 in damages arising out of the tragic death of her husband John Guiney in a work related accident at a site in Raheen, Carrigaline Cork in November 2000.

She sued her husband’s then employer MJ Manning Construction Ltd. In 2012 the High Court awarded her damages of €794,765 plus costs, against ….read more

A convicted Limerick criminal who is giving evidence at the trial of two men charged with the murder of businessman Roy Collins was described as a “crooked snaky cunt” by his sister’s partner, the Special Criminal Court has heard.

In his direct evidence yesterday Gareth Collins (31), also known as Gareth Keogh, told the non-jury court that he was offered €20,000 to take part in the killing of publican Steve Collins, the father of murdered Limerick businessman Roy Collins.

Man charged with possession of explosives at Finnstown House Hotel

A 55-year-old man has appeared before the Special Criminal Court this afternoon charged with the possession of explosives at Finnstown House Hotel on Sunday.

Samuel Devlin, who is originally from Co Tyrone but has lived in Dublin for a number of years, was arrested on Sunday morning by members of the Special Detective Unit.

Mr Devlin, with an address at Golf Suite, Finnstown House Hotel, Lucan, Co Dublin is charged with the unlawful possession of an explosive substance to wit Pentaerythritol Tetranitrate (PETN) at the same address on May 11, 2014.
