Man charged with INLA membership at out-of-hours court

A Dublin man has appeared before a special out-of-hours sitting of the Special Criminal Court tonight charged with INLA membership.

Paul Mason (26) with an address at Ballygarra Park, Garristown, Co Dublin is charged with membership of an unlawful organisation within the State, to wit an organisation styling itself the Irish National Liberation Army, otherwise the INLA on May 7, 2014.

Detective Garda Peter Cooney, of Ardee Garda Station, told State Solicitor Mr Liam Mulholland that he formally arrested Paul Mason at 9:33pm tonight on Father Connolly Way, Drogheda, Co Louth.

The FAI wants the High Court to make orders requiring US judge John McCarthy III, former owner and chairman of Limerick FC, to provide security for the costs of his action over losses he claims he suffered on his investment.

Mr McCarthy, who is a municipal Judge in the US state of New Jersey, is suing the Football Association of Ireland and a number of individuals including the FAI’s CEO John Delaney and says he lost about €280,000 as a result of his purchase of Limerick Thirty Seven FC Ltd seven years ago.

Body-in-suitcase suspect readmitted to bail

A Dublin man wanted in Holland in connection with the discovery of a dismembered body in an Amsterdam canal has had his bail reinstated despite previously failing to appear in court.

Dutch authorities are seeking the surrender of Kenneth Brunell (27) from Palmerstown and Barry McArdle (27) from Drimnagh who were arrested by gardaí on foot of extradition warrants issued in 2011.

The men are wanted to face trial in connection with the death of Keith Ennis (29) from Walkinstown, whose dismembered body was found in an Amsterdam canal in 2009. Mr Ennis was on the run from gardaí at the time.

A man accused of murdering his partner did not threaten to stab her as alleged by witnesses, a jury has heard, and an audio recording of the conversation in which he is alleged to have made the threat is due to be played to them in his defence.

Vesel Jahiri, of Louth Village, Dundalk but originally from Kosovo, has pleaded not guilty to murdering Anna Finnegan at Allendale Glen, Clonsilla, Dublin 15 on September 21 2012.

The thirty-three year old has also pleaded not guilty to assault causing harm on Anna Finnegan’s brother, Karl, on the same date.

Murder accused said he was planning to sort out differences with deceased

The sister of a 29-year-old man shot dead in 2012 has testified that shortly before the killing, the accused told her he was planning to sort out his differences with her brother.

Jenna Rossiter was giving evidence to the Central Criminal Court today in the trial of the 31-year-old Tipperary man charged with murdering Shane Rossiter.

Maurice Power of Dranganbeg, Kilmoyler, Cahir has pleaded not to murdering Mr Rossiter in Golden, Co Tipperary on October 17, 2012.

The trial has heard that the shooting took place around 6.30am, following a house party in Church Lane in the village.

Mayo brothers to stand trial on explosives and IRA Membership charges

Special Criminal Court

Two Mayo brothers who are charged with explosives and IRA membership offences will stand trial at the Special Criminal Court in December 2015.

Colin Mannion (33) and his brother Brian Mannion (31) of Burriscarra, Clogher, Claremorris, are both charged with membership of an unlawful organisation within the State, namely Oglaigh na hEireann, otherwise the Irish Republican Army, otherwise the IRA on June 9, 2012.

They are also charged with the unlawful possession of explosive substances RDX, PETN, one loaded detonator, two unloaded detonators and three electrical component parts at their home on the same date.
