Murderer who escaped from English prison and fled here to seek to appeal extradition decision

A convicted murderer who was on the run here after his escape from an English prison is to seek a Supreme Court appeal of the decision to extradite him back to the UK.

In July High Court judge Mr Justice John Edwards said that he had decided to surrender Anthony Craig, who was convicted of murdering another man in a park in Blackburn on November 3, 1973, to the UK authorities.

However, the order to surrender Craig was not finalised and the 66-year-old has remained on bail to allow lawyers consider making an application for leave to appeal the decision to the ….read more

Body-in-suitcase suspect has bail reinstated for second time

A Dublin man wanted in the Netherlands in connection with the discovery of a dismembered body in an Amsterdam canal has had his bail reinstated for a second time today.

Dutch authorities are seeking the surrender of Kenneth Brunell (28) from Palmerstown who was arrested by gardai on foot of extradition warrants issued in 2011.

Mr Brunell is wanted to face trial in connection with the death of Keith Ennis (29) from Walkinstown, whose dismembered body was found in an Amsterdam canal in 2009. Mr Ennis was on the run from gardai at the time.

“Largest facilitator of child porn in the world” refused review of decision not to prosecute him here

An Irishman who is wanted in the US and was described as “the largest facilitator of child porn in the world” has failed in an application to seek judicial review of the DPP’s decision not to prosecute him here.

Eric Eoin Marques, who is alleged to be the owner and administrator of an anonymous hosting site known as Freedom Hosting, is wanted by US authorities to face charges relating to conspiring to distribute and advertise child pornography, and advertising and distributing child pornography.

The hearing of the extradition case against a man wanted to face international terrorism charges in the United States has been adjourned until next month.

Ali Charaf Damache (49), an Algerian-born Irish citizen who has been living here for a decade, is wanted in the United States to face charges relating to the conspiracy to provide material support for terrorists and attempted identity theft to facilitate an act of international terrorism.

Judge bids emotional farewell on retirement

A High Court judge became emotional today as he thanked his family on the eve of his retirement from the bench.

Mr Justice Barry White sat in the Central Criminal Court for the final time yesterday. By the time the case over which he was presiding had finished, a large number of well wishers, including his family, had arrived in the courtroom in Dublin’s Criminal Courts of Justice.

Extradition proceedings against a man wanted to face international terrorism charges in the United States continued today at the High Court in Dublin.
