Psychiatric patient on trial for murdering fellow patient said he considered killing his neighbours, trial told

A PSYCHIATRIC patient accused of murdering a fellow patient told a garda he fantasised about ways of getting in to prison and considered killing his neighbours before his admission to hospital, a court was told today (THURS).

Ian Harman (50), of Carrickallen, Mountain Lodge, Cootehill, Co Cavan, has pleaded not guilty at the Central Criminal Court to the murder of Michael Treanor at the Psychiatric Unit of Cavan General Hospital, Lisdarn, Co Cavan, on June 27, 2011.

Bail granted to IRA accused despite garda objections

A Dublin man who was among seven men charged with IRA membership before the Special Criminal Court has been granted temporary bail despite the objections of gardai.

At a special sitting of the non-jury court last year Brian Nick McBennett (54) of Ard Collum Avenue, Artane, was charged with membership of an unlawful organisation styling itself the Irish Republican Army, otherwise Oglaigh na hEireann, otherwise the IRA on July 3, 2013.

Moore Street restaurant action resolved

A Moore Street restauranteur – who claimed she was turfed her out of her premises – and her landlord have come to an agreement in a dispute over unpaid rent.

Stella Esemuede claimed her landlord Parnell Street Project Ltd forced out of the basement premises located in a Mall at the corner of Moore Street and Parnell Street, from where she has operated Notedo’s restaurant since 2009, after she objected to the more than doubling of her rent.

The landlord denied any wrongdoing and rejected claims the rent had been doubled.

Bi-polar man given suspended sentence for trespassing and sending threatening texts to his mother

A MAN who is bi-polar and had ‘idle thoughts’ on the night he sent his mother threatening text messages after he trespassed in her garden has been given a two month suspended sentence.

David Geraghty has also been bound to the peace for one year and ordered to stay away from his mother’s house.

Geraghty (33) of Ballisk Court in Donabate pleaded guilty to trespassing at his mother’s house at Hampton Cove in Balbriggan on June 15th.

Family of man killed in DIY store wall collapse awarded €750,000

The family of a 48-year-old Co Longford man who tragically lost his life after an internal wall in a DIY centre collapsed on him have settled their High Court damages action for €750,000.

Sean Mulleady died from injuries he received when a section of a 6.5m high 8.4m wide internal wall collapsed on him, and several others, at Connacht Gold Co-Op Society’s shop at Athlone Road, Longford on January 29th 2013.

Mr Mulleady, a married father of three children from Creenagh, Longford, was in the course of buying gates when the wall collapsed. Another man ….read more

Foxrock restaurant dispute adjourned

The parties involved in what was described as a “tense stand off” at a south Dublin restaurant have entered into talks to try to resolve the dispute the High Court has heard.

On Tuesday Mr Justice Paul Gilligan was told John and James McCabe, directors of the company operating The Gables restaurant and Wine Bar on Torquay Road, Foxrock, were involved in a stand off with agents of the owner of the property.
