Murder suspect told gardaí he didn't stab his former partner

A jury has been watching taped footage of interviews conducted by gardaí following the arrest of a 33-year-old man on suspicion of murder.

Vesel Jahiri, of Louth Village, Dundalk but originally from Kosovo, has pleaded not guilty to murdering Anna Finnegan at Allendale Glen, Clonsilla, Dublin 15 on September 21 2012.

Mr Jahiri has also pleaded not guilty to assault causing harm on Anna Finnegan’s brother, Karl, on the same date.

The Central Criminal Court has heard how Ms Finnegan and Mr Jahiri had been in a ten year relationship that had “deteriorated dramatically”. They had two young children together and ….read more

Anthony Lyons appeal to go ahead next week

The re-hearing of an appeal against the undue leniency of a six-month custodial sentence imposed on businessman Anthony Lyons is to go ahead at the Court of Criminal Appeal next week.

In November last year the three-judge appeal court found that the six-month custodial sentence imposed on Lyons (52) for a violent sexual assault was “unduly lenient” but reserved the reasons for its judgement and later reserved its decision on what sentence should be imposed in its place.

However, due to the illness of sitting judge Mr Justice Michael Hanna, the court had to be reconstituted and the appeal re-heard.

State pathologist gives evidence in Rialto murder trial

The State Pathologist has given evidence in the trial of two Dublin youths charged with murdering a German student and injuring another in the city.

Thomas Heinrich (22) and Robert Rinker (23) were stabbed on St Anthony’s Road in Rialto on December 1, 2012. Mr Rinker, who is now 25, survived but Mr Heinrich died.

Wesley Kelly (20) of St Anthony’s Road has pleaded not guilty at the Central Criminal Court to murdering Mr Heinrich and to assault causing harm to Mr Rinker.

A 17-year-old, who cannot be named because of his age, also denies both charges.

A man serving a life sentence for murder has told the Special Criminal Court that his first cousin Wayne Dundon told him he ordered the killing of Limerick businessman Roy Collins.

Anthony “Noddy” McCarthy today gave evidence in the trial of Wayne Dundon (36), of Lenihan Avenue, Prospect and Nathan Killeen (24) of Hyde Road, Prospect who have pleaded not guilty to the murder of 35-year-old Roy Collins at Coin Castle Amusements, Roxboro Road Shopping Centre on April 9, 2009.

Aoife Phelan not pregnant when she was strangled, trial hears

A murder trial has heard that Laois Nanny Aoife Phelan was not pregnant when she was strangled to death.

The trial was hearing from State Pathologist Professor Marie Cassidy, who carried out the autopsy on the 30-year-old’s body after it was discovered buried on the accused man’s property.

Robert Corbet (25) of Capoley, Sheffield Cross, Laois has pleaded not guilty to murdering Ms Phelan at Capoley. However, he has admitted her manslaughter between October 25th and November 7th, when gardai found her body doubled over in a barrel there.

A witness has told the trial of two Limerick man charged with the murder of businessman Roy Collins that she lied to gardai in order to protect her partner, who is a key prosecution witness in the case.
