Man charged with possession of drugs remanded on continuing bail

A MAN charged with unlawful possession of drugs was remanded on continuing bail at Swords District Court to re-appear before the court next month.

Derek Boylan (32) of Hollywell Avenue, Feltrim Hall in Swords is alleged to have been in unlawful possession of cocaine for sale or supply at his home address on May 1st, 2013. He is further alleged to have been in unlawful possession of cannabis at the same address on the same date.

Reserved judgement in appeal brought by rapist who wore women’s underwear

The Court of Criminal Appeal has reserved judgement in an appeal brought by a man who was jailed for fifteen years for ambushing a woman in the public toilets of a Cork town and subjecting her to over half an hour of rape and sexual violence.

Przemyslaw Jakubowski (39) was wearing women’s underwear when he grabbed the woman from behind as she was drying her hands after running errands in the town. He pulled her into a cubicle and threatened to kill her.

Man convicted of murder of friend who died two years after he was shot begins appeal

A Dublin man has begun an appeal against his conviction for the murder of his friend who died two years after he was shot in the head.

In February 2012 Jonathan Dunne was jailed for life by Mr Justice Paul Carney having been found guilty of murdering Ian Kenny (21) by a Central Criminal Court jury.

Dunne (28), formerly of Windmill Park, Crumlin, had previously pleaded guilty to the attempted murder of Mr Kenny at Lakelands Road, Stillorgan.

He had been serving a 12-year sentence for attempted murder but in a landmark case was tried for murder after Mr Kenny died in hospital ….read more


Man who denied assaulting bouncers has his case dismissed

A MAN charged with assaulting two bouncers – breaking one man’s nose and causing another man to break his coccyx bone – at a Swords nightclub had his case dismissed after a judge ruled that one of the witnesses was not credible.

‘Something did happen on the night alright but I am dismissing both charges,’ said Judge Dermot Dempsey at Swords District Court after he heard all of the evidence of what was alleged to have occurred on the night. He also viewed CCTV footage of the night.

Detective brings action aimed at preventing dismissal

A Detective garda who admitted breaching Garda rules concerning the handling of informants has brought a High Court action aimed at preventing his possible dismissal from the force.

The action has been brought by Limerick based detective Brian Culbert who claims the internal disciplinary process he has been subjected to is procedurally flawed and should be discontinued.

In proceedings against the Garda Commissioner the deceive is seeking various orders including one preventing the disciplinary process against him from proceeding any further.

Man accused of child sex abuse seeks to prohibit retrial

A man accused of sexually abusing three children in the sixties and seventies has brought a High Court action aimed at prohibiting his retrial.

The man, who cannot be identified, is charged with more than 40 counts of sexually abusing three siblings in Co Wexford on dates between 1966 and 1979. The man denies all the charges against him.

Last November, following a trial that lasted two weeks, a jury at Wexford Circuit Court failed to reach a verdict on 46 charges of sexual abuse allegedly carried out on the children between 1966 and 1979. A re-trial was ordered.
