A woman who was raped by a man who purported to come to her aid after she got lost on a night out in Dublin says she is now a “broken person”.
In a victim impact statement read out in the Central Criminal Court today, the married mother described how she suffers from panic attacks and depression since she was raped by Mohamed Okda while on a night out in Dublin city in 2014.

The jury in the trial of a garda detective accused of harassing a State solicitor have heard closing speeches.
Eve Doherty (49), a detective sergeant based in Dublin, denies harassing Elizabeth Howlin between September 2011 and March 2013 and making false statements on two dates in March 2013 claiming Ms Howlin was perverting the course of justice.
At the time Ms Howlin worked with the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) where she was involved in deciding whether or not to direct prosecutions in criminal cases.

The parties involved in a dispute over damage allegedly caused to houses located near the site of the new National children’s Hospital in Dublin have reached an agreement, the High Court heard.
Residents from the O’Reilly Avenue, Ceannt Fort, Mount Brown areas of Dublin 8 had sued the National Paediatric Hospital Development Board and BAM Civil Limited, the firm which is building the hospital.
The residents, who live close to St. James Hospital in Dublin where the new €1bn children’s hospital is being constructed, claim their homes have been damaged as a result of certain works being carried out by the defendants.

A barber convicted of violent disorder during a row outside a Dublin city nightclub four years ago has been given a suspended sentence and ordered to pay €6,000.
The court heard Jonathan Doran (26) was acting out of “misguided loyalty” after mistakenly believing his friend, Republic of Ireland soccer player Jeff Hendrick, had been struck.
The injured party, Darren McDermott, said he was pulled out of a taxi following a verbal row at Krystal nightclub. He said he was chased down a laneway by a number of men and assaulted.

The High Court has rejected an application for leave to appeal against the extradition of a construction company director, wanted in the UK over his role in a £5 million (about €5.8 million) tax fraud.
Thomas Joseph O’Connor (49), with an address at Cloughbeirne, The Walk, Roscommon, had applied to the court for leave to appeal, on the basis of Brexit, against his surrender to the UK.

A High Court action brought by a minority shareholder in a gold mining company has been adjourned generally following discussions between the parties involved.
Patrick O’Sullivan, of Howth Road, Dublin, initiated proceedings under the Companies Act against Conroy Gold and Natural Resources plc alleging oppression of him as a shareholder.
The company was established in 1995 by Professor Richard Conroy to find gold deposits in Northern Ireland and northern Finland and has a nine member board chaired by Professor Conroy.
Mr O’Sullivan acquired shares in the company in autumn 2009 and now holds a 28 per cent stake but is not ….read more
