Man who killed partner allegedly not complying with terms of release, court hears

A Limerick man who had his conviction for murdering his partner quashed, and was subsequently jailed for her manslaughter, is allegedly not complying with the terms of his suspended sentence, the
Central Criminal Court has heard.

On foot of his guilty plea to manslaughter which was accepted by the State, Kieran Lynch (50) was sentenced last year to 12 years imprisonment with four suspended for her manslaughter but had already served his time.

Lynch was sentenced to life in prison in March 2007, after a Central Criminal Court jury found him guilty of the murder of 36-year-old Catherine McEnery.

Mother claims father “paid” son to write letter to family court

An elderly father paid his son to say he wants to spend more time with his dad, a mother has claimed at the Family Court.

The father is buying the schoolboy things so that he will say and do certain things, the mother claimed at the Dublin District Family Court today.

“My client feels he’s constantly promising the boy things, if he does certain things,” Sandra McAleer, solicitor for the mother, said.

Jail for man caught dealing drugs during Easter Rising centenary “dragnet”

A man who was caught drug dealing by gardaí during a surveillance operation on Dublin’s Moore Street in the run-up to the Easter Rising centenary has been jailed for four and a half years.

Garda Thomas McEvoy revealed that he and colleagues set up a general surveillance operation on the historic street last year and noticed Patrick Hyacinth (30) behaving suspiciously.

The gardaí got a search warrant for an internet cafe that Hyacinth was seen frequenting and seized cocaine worth almost €2,500 on a chair he had been sitting on during a raid on the premises. Officers later found €98,000 of MDMA ….read more

Former priest bids to halt indecent assault trial

A former Catholic priest has launched a High Court action aimed at preventing his trial on a charge that he indecently assaulted a young boy more than 30 years ago from going ahead.

The man, who has been sent forward to face trial before Dublin Circuit Criminal Court, claims that he is at risk of not getting a fair trial.

It is the man’s case that the DPP has allowed an unexplainable delay to occur in the prosecution of the case. The case, he also claims, has not been dealt with in an expeditious manner.

Uncle who twice raped niece (14) is jailed for eight years

A Dublin man who raped his 14-year-old niece twice in her bed when she was living with him has been jailed for eight years.

In a victim impact statement handed in to court, the now-19-year-old victim said she would never trust another person like she had trusted her uncle. She said she bottled up what he did to her for years.

“I looked at the world like it was a dull, horrible place and I would be better off dead,” she said.

Mother-of-five to face trial accused of Gareth Hutch murder at non-jury court

Special Criminal Court

A 39-year-old mother of five will face trial at the non-jury Special Criminal Court for the murder of Gareth Hutch, who was shot dead near his Dublin home in May last year.

Gareth Hutch (35), nephew of Gerry “the Monk” Hutch, was shot dead as he was getting into his car outside Avondale House flats on North Cumberland Street in Dublin on the morning of May 24th last year.

Regina Keogh, from Kings Inn Street, Dublin 1, was charged in June at Dublin District Court with the alleged murder.
