Stepson pleads guilty to impeding prosecution of biker murder accused

A man has pleaded guilty to impeding the apprehension or prosecution of his stepfather, who is on trial accused of murder at the Central Criminal Court.

Robert Cusack (28), of Abington, Murroe had pleaded not guilty to impeding the apprehension of Alan McNamara. Cusack was re-arraigned today and pleaded guilty.

His stepfather, Alan ‘Cookie’ McNamara, (51),from Mountfune, Murroe, has pleaded not guilty to the murder of Andrew ‘AOD’ O’Donoghue on Saturday June 20, 2015 at the Road Tramps motorcycle clubhouse at Mountfune. Mr McNamara’s trial is continuing.

No jail for criminal “bookkeeper” caught with €115k in cash

A woman who was caught with over €115,000 in cash while acting as a bookkeeper for serious criminals has received a five year suspended sentence.

Judge Gerard Griffin acknowledged that Janet Morrissey (35) was “ripe for exploitation” by criminals as she had a cocaine addiction and heavy debts at the time.

Morrissey, a single mother with an address in Meile An Ri Drive, Lucan, Co Dublin, was found by gardaí with €9,670 in cash in her coat pocket outside her home in Lucan on April 4, 2016. A further €108,130 was found in a wardrobe in her bedroom.

Limerick man to be sentenced for stabbing cyclist over crash compensation

Special Criminal Court

A Limerick man found guilty of stabbing a cyclist in the leg over compensation for a road accident will be sentenced next Monday at the Special Criminal Court.

Larry McCarthy (37) was among a number of people who threatened to use “unlawful violence” and assaulted David Foran (33), who earlier that month had been knocked down and then offered compensation by a motorcyclist.

Mr McCarthy, with an address at Tower Lodge, Crossgalla, Old Cork Rd in County Limerick had pleaded not guilty to assaulting Mr Foran causing him harm at Cornmarket Villas on November 25th, 2014.

“Avid boxer” who spat on garda is jailed

A young Dublin man described as an “avid boxer” has been jailed for a spate of driving offences and spitting on a Garda.

Clayton McMahon (24) of Clogher Road, Crumlin, Dublin was convicted last May of reckless endangerment, dangerous driving on September 29, 2016 and of assault of a garda on November 17, 2016.

After a short trial, a jury also found him guilty of driving without insurance or a driver’s licence and failing to produce evidence of having insurance or a driver’s licence to a Garda station.

McMahon had pleaded not guilty at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court to the charges.

A man who took part in the robbery of five phones over a five-day period in five stores around the country has been jailed for 20 months.

Viorel Rostas (28) of Swanhall, Belgard Square, Tallaght, Dublin, pleaded guilty at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court to stealing five iPhones from five separate Three mobile phone stores around the country.

Detective Garda Ronan Doonan told Garett Baker BL, prosecuting, that Rostas was part of a group of four involved in the theft of phones with a combined value of more than €3,500 between November 3 and 7, 2015.

Garda sent anonymous email while wearing wig and sunglasses, trial hears

A garda on trial for harassing a State solicitor wore a wig and sunglasses while sending an anonymous email from a city centre internet cafe, a court has heard.

Eve Doherty (49), a garda based in Dublin, denies harassing Elizabeth Howlin between September 2011 and March 2013 and making false statements on two dates in March 2013 claiming Ms Howlin was perverting the course of justice.

Ms Howlin worked as a directing officer with the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) and was involved in deciding whether or not to direct prosecutions in criminal cases.
