A Limerick man has been found not guilty of threatening to kill and damage the property of another man.
The presiding judge at the Special Criminal Court said that although Larry McCarthy Jnr’s actions were “reckless, ill-considered and irresponsible”, the court was acquitting him of the charges.
Mr McCarthy Jnr (37), with addresses at the Old Cork Road and Cornmarket Villas in Limerick, had denied threatening to kill Noel Moore (74) and threatening to damage Mr Moore’s property at Windsor House, Donoughmore, Limerick on July 28th, 2015.

Garda whistleblower Sergeant Maurice McCabe was forced to retreat into his garda station following a confrontation with family members of the young woman who alleged he sexually assaulted her, the Charleton tribunal heard.
In 2007 the DPP recommended against bringing charges in the case, saying there was no evidence an offence had been committed. The tribunal is looking at claims there was a smear campaign against Sgt McCabe.

A man who stabbed his sister has avoided going to prison after the victim told a court she forgave her brother and had no animosity towards him.
Dublin Circuit Criminal Court heard that Colm O’Hara (49) had mental health issues and had stopped taking his medication on the day he attacked his older sister.
O’Hara, of no fixed abode, pleaded guilty to assault of Miriam O’Hara causing her harm at her home on Edenmore Green, Raheny, Dublin on June 23, 2016.

A 44-year-old woman with Schizoaffective disorder, who is unfit to stand trial for the murder of a man in his South Dublin home in 2014, has been committed to the Central Mental Hospital.
Mercy Peters, originally from Sierra Leone, is charged with murdering Tyrone McKenna (42) on July 17, 2014 at the house they had shared in Marley Court, Rathfarnham, Dublin 14.
Last week at the Central Criminal Court, as a result of hearing evidence from two consultant psychiatrists that Ms Peters is suffering from Schizoaffective disorder, Mr Justice Tony Hunt found her unfit to stand trial.

A man accused of shooting dead a biker told gardai that “tensions were running high” after members of a rival motorcycle club threatened to burn his house down with his family inside.
Alan ‘Cookie’ McNamara (51), from Mountfune, Murroe, Co Limerick has pleaded not guilty to the murder of Andrew ‘AOD’ O’Donoghue on Saturday June 20, 2015 at Mountfune.
Also on trial is Mr McNamara’s stepson Robert Cusack (28), of Abington, Murroe who has pleaded not guilty to impeding Mr McNamara’s apprehension knowing or believing him to have committed a serious offence.

A father-of-two who threatened to chop off a customer’s head while trying to rob a post office has been sentenced to four and half years with the final 18 months suspended.
George Simpson (30), who was armed with both an air pistol and a hatchet, told gardaí in interview “I’m sorry I had to do it. I owe €14,000. I would be killed.” His counsel said he was referring to a drug debt he owed due to his cocaine habit.
