The fingerprint of a man accused of IRA membership was found on the registration certificate of the car used in the fatal shooting of Northern Irish prison officer David Black, the Special Criminal Court has heard today.
The prosecution allege that Vincent Banks (47) purchased the car.
Mr Black, a 52-year-old father of two, was shot dead on November 1st 2012. He was driving to work at Maghaberry prison when the incident occurred.
Mr Banks, of Smithfield Gate Apartments in Dublin 7 has pleaded not guilty to membership of an unlawful organisation styling itself the Irish Republican ….read more

A senior Tusla manager has told the Charleton Tribunal that it was incompetence and not “something sinister” that led to a false rape allegation being made against garda whistle blower Sergeant Maurice McCabe.
Linda Creamer, a regional service director with the child and family agency, apologised to the McCabe family for the stress they have endured.
The tribunal is looking into the creation and distribution of files by Tusla and the HSE containing false allegations against Sgt McCabe and whether he was the target of a smear campaign.

A social worker with Tusla who was asked to review a file on garda whistleblower Sgt Maurice McCabe had said she was given “a sanitised version”, the Charleton tribunal has heard.
The tribunal is looking into the creation and distribution of files by Tusla and the HSE containing false allegations against Sgt McCabe and whether he was the target of a smear campaign.

Judges at the Special Criminal Court trial of a Limerick man accused of threatening to shoot a 74-year-old man and burn his “house to the ground” will deliver judgement on Friday.
Larry McCarthy Jnr (39), with addresses at the Old Cork Road and Cornmarket Villas in Limerick, is charged with threatening to kill Noel Moore and threatening to damage Mr Moore’s property at Windsor
House, Donoughmore, Limerick on July 28, 2015.
Arraigned on the charges before the non-jury Special Criminal Court last week, Mr McCarthy Jnr pleaded not guilty to both counts.

Gardai found two shotguns, pepper spray, iron bars, axe handles, knuckle dusters and knives when they searched a bikers’ clubhouse and cars where a man was shot dead.
The weapons were found by gardai investigating the death of Andrew O’Donoghue (51) who died after being shot at Murroe, Co Limerick on June 20, 2015. Alan McNamara (51), of Mountfune, Murroe, Co Limerick has pleaded not guilty to his murder.

A Mayo resident who has admitted theft of over €11,000 of equipment from a Castlebar takeaway will be sentenced at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court in November.
Yasir Ali (29) with an address at Waterside, Ballinrobe, Co Mayo, pleaded guilty to burglary at Thomas Street Takeaway, Thomas Street, Castlebar on May 18, 2015.
The equipment comprised a large commercial freezer, deep fat fryers, a commercial hot plate burger fryer, a medium freezer, microwave and food blender. Other items included stainless steel mixing bowls and mixing trays, a chip holder, two stainless steel tables and a food chopping board.
