A woman who stole in the region of €14,000 from a creche while working as a bookkeeper said she always “intended to pay it back”, a court has heard.
Elizabeth Ingram (61) of The Drumlins, Virginia, Co Cavan pleaded guilty at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court to stealing from Ballyfermot Resource Centre in Dublin on dates in 2011 and 2012.
Garda Lisa Duffy told Pieter Le Vert BL, prosecuting, that Ingram had been in charge of bookkeeping for the resource centre, which includes a creche, a restaurant and a sweet-shop, for eight years prior to the incident.

The High Court has heard objections to a legal bid by an Irish man, described by the FBI as the world’s ‘largest facilitator of child pornography’, aimed at halting his extradition to the United States.
Eric Eoin Marques, who is alleged to be the owner and administrator of an anonymous hosting site known as Freedom Hosting, is wanted by the US authorities to face charges relating to conspiring to distribute and advertise child pornography and advertising and distributing child pornography.

A Kildare man who orally raped an 11-year-old girl during “blindfold games” when he was aged 15 has had his two-year jail term halved on appeal.
The now 24-year-old, who cannot be named to protect the victim’s identity, had pleaded guilty to two counts of sexual assault in a shed at his home in Co. Kildare on dates in October and December 2008.
He also pleaded guilty to oral rape at his home in April 2009 and in a woodland near his home in May 2009.

A man jailed for his role in a violent bookmakers attack has lost an appeal against his conviction on the principal ground of his identification from CCTV footage.
Declan Tynan (27), Vincent Street Flats, Dublin 8, had pleaded not guilty at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court to violent disorder at Ladbrokes bookmakers in Killinarden, Tallaght on December 13, 2012.
Tynan was found guilty by a jury and sentenced to four years imprisonment with the final year suspended by Judge Patricia Ryan on January 13, 2017.

The Special Criminal Court trial of a Dublin man accused of IRA membership has heard a day of legal argument.
Defence lawyers at the trial of Vincent Banks (47), who the prosecution allege purchased the car from which Northern Irish prison officer David Black was shot dead, are objecting to the legality of the accused man’s arrest.
Mr Black, a 52-year-old father of two, was killed on November 1st 2012. He was driving to work at Maghaberry prison when the incident occurred.

A jury has convicted an Egyptian national of raping a woman he met after she became lost on a night out in Dublin city.
Mohamed Okda (30) was staying in a friend’s flat in the city in February 2014 when he met the woman in an upset state.
Okda, formerly of Coolfin, Rathdowney, Co Laois had pleaded not guilty to two counts of raping the woman and one count of sexual assault at a flat in Dublin city centre on a date on February 9, 2014.
