A “one man crime wave” who committed a series of thefts over the course of 2016 has been jailed.
Stephen Bollard (35) who was identified on CCTV after the incidents, told gardai his motivation was to get money for drugs. Dublin Circuit Criminal Court heard there no violence involved in the offences.
The father of four has 118 previous convictions including 27 for theft, 33 for burglary and nine for attempted burglary.
Bollard, of Marewood Crescent, Ballymun, Dublin pleaded guilty to two burglaries, one attempted burglary, three thefts and one criminal damage at locations in Dublin on dates between March and December 2016.

A man who took part in a attempted robbery armed with a “BB gun” in a desperate attempt to repay a drug debt has had the balance of a three year sentence suspended.
Dublin Circuit Criminal Court heard Alan Daly (39) had been held responsible for the loss of a large quantity of drugs. He had been contacted that day by the criminals and told if he did not have money by 10pm there would be consequences.
Daly had been previously been abducted and seriously assaulted by the criminals.

A 57-year-old Dublin man jailed for the “intense” sexual abuse of a young relative while she was being cared for in his home, has lost an appeal against the severity of his eight year sentence for indecent assault.
The man, who can not be identified to protect his victim’s identity, was convicted by a Dublin Circuit Criminal Court jury of 41 counts of indecent assault of the girl at his family home between 1983 and 1986. She was aged between six and nine at the time of the abuse while he was aged between 24 and 26.

A Central Criminal Court jury has found a 55-year-old man not guilty of impeding a murder investigation after his housemate inflicted “a savage assault” on the victim with an axe.
Aivars Sondors was charged with three counts of assisting an offender on September 9 or 10 2013 by impeding the apprehension or prosecution of Marius Gaizutis, knowing or believing him to have unlawfully killed 44-year-old Audrius Butkus.

An elderly father was today granted a barring order against his “extremely violent” 27-year-old son.
The father told the Dublin District Family Court in Dolphin House, Temple Street, Dublin that his son has suffered from mental health issues for more than two years. He said his son switched medications for his acute anxiety six months ago and, since that time, had been “extremely violent”.
He said that if his son didn’t take his medication straight away in the morning “he goes off”.

The Court of Appeal has upheld a 13-year-jail term imposed on a man for raping a woman four times in a single incident after inviting her to his home on the pretext of helping him with some painting.
The 40-year-old man, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was convicted by a Central Criminal Court jury of two charges of rape, two charges of anal rape and assaulting the woman causing her harm at his Laois home on July 19, 2012. He had pleaded not guilty to the charges.
