Murder accused tried to urinate on his hands before firearms residue test, trial hears

The trial of of 33-year-old man, accused of murder with a shotgun, has heard that he tried to urinate on his hands before gardaí tested them for firearms residue.

Gda Aaron Hoey gave evidence to the Central Criminal Court this morning in the trial of Seán Ducque, who is charged with murdering Kieran Farrelly in Dublin City.

The father of one, of no fixed abode, has pleaded not guilty to murdering the 33-year-old on 26th October 2014 at Killarney Court, Killarney Street.

Father owes €40k in child maintenance, family court hears

A self-employed father who owes the mother of his children more than €40,000 in maintenance was today told that “having a dead accountant isn’t a very sensible thing”.

Sophie Cargin BL, counsel for the mother, told the Dublin District Family Court in Dolphin House, Temple Bar that the father now owes the mother €40,140.

At the last court date in April, it was determined that the father owed €38,920, she said. Since then he has not made any payments towards the weekly upkeep of his children or the arrears he still owes the mother.

The trial of six men accused of falsely imprisoning the former Tánaiste Joan Burton has heard that a a peaceful protestor is charged with an offence that could potentially result in a life sentence.

Solidarity TD Paul Murphy (34) and five other men have pleaded not guilty at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court to falsely imprisoning Ms Burton and her adviser Karen O’Connell by restricting their personal liberty without consent at Fortunestown Road, Jobstown, Tallaght on November 15, 2014.

Accused tells trial he felt “uneasy” telling lies to gardai

A man charged with impeding a homicide investigation has told his trial that he felt “uneasy” telling lies in his garda interviews and “sooner or later” the truth would have surfaced.

The 55-year-old continued to give evidence in his defence today on the fifth day of his Central Criminal Court trial.

Aivars Sondors is charged with three counts of assisting an offender on September 9 or 10 2013 by impeding the apprehension or prosecution of Marius Gaizutis, knowing or believing him to have unlawfully killed Audrius Butkus (44).

Judge orders that Dublin property be vacated by all residents

A High Court judge has ordered that a Dublin city centre property described as a potential fire safety risk be vacated by all its residents by July 9th.

Mr Justice Paul Gilligan made the orders in respect of 24 Mountjoy Square, which is subject of a fire safety notice since August of last year, despite objections from a Polish family of 12 who the court heard want to remain in the property, and did not want to end up in B&B accommodation.

Man who sexually assaulted “comatose” woman will be sent to jail following successful DPP appeal

A man spared jail for sexually assaulting a comatose women, who had parted company from her friends while out socialising, will be sent to jail on Monday following a finding that his original suspended sentence was “unduly lenient”.

Polish national Marek Krol (54), with an address at Clarence Apartments, St Luke’s Cork, had pleaded guilty to sexually assaulting the 25-year-old woman in Cork city centre on February 1, 2016.

He was given a wholly suspended two year sentence by Judge David Riordan at Cork Circuit Criminal Court on November 2 last.
