A judge has told a motorist who gave gardaí a false name and date of birth that he had “gotten off quite lightly” after fining him €100.
Rashid Khan (33) of Liffey Valley Park, Lucan, pleaded guilty at Tallaght District Court to giving false details to Garda Dillon O’Malley on August 25.
The court heard Khan was stopped while driving at Citywest Drive in Saggart, where he produced a UK driving licence and a learner permit containing details for two different people.
He then gave Garda O’Malley a false name and date of birth.
Khan was later correctly identified and made no reply when cautioned.
Defence barrister, Ethan Foley BL, said Khan worked in IT, was married and had no previous convictions or road traffic history.
Mr Foley said Khan knew he should not have given false details and asked the court to exercise discretion, pointing to his client’s guilty plea and clean record. He also told the court Khan had already paid considerable fines arising from the same offences.
Judge Paula Cullinane convicted Khan, fined him €100 and told him: “You’ve gotten off quite lightly this morning”.
A charge of driving without insurance arising from the same incident was taken into consideration.
