Man admits to stealing gin and clothing before assaulting garda

A man who stole a bottle of gin and some clothing before assaulting two people, including a garda, is to be
sentenced in July at Castlebar Circuit Court.

Bernard McDonagh (30) of Gortnafolla, Turlough, Castlebar, affirmed signed guilty pleas to five charges including assaulting a garda at Tesco, Knockacroghery, Castlebar on November 11 last.

He also admitted assaulting another man on the same occasion.

McDonagh further pleaded guilty to stealing a bottle of Bombay Gin worth €35 and to stealing clothing to the value of €420 from TK Maxx in Castlebar on the same day.

He admitted causing criminal damage to the wing mirror of a BMW saloon in the Aldi carpark in Castlebar, also on the same day.

McDonagh, who is on an enhanced regime in prison, was remanded in custody for sentencing on July 22.

Judge Eoin Garavan ordered a probation report and a governor’s report to be prepared for the next date.
