A number of cases listed for hearing at the District Court Appeals Court were adjourned today due to the continuing withdrawal of legal aid work by solicitors.
Both appellants and counsel told the presiding judge Fiona O’Sullivan that their solicitor was not available when their cases were called.
One solicitor present in court told Judge O’Sullivan that they had withdrawn their services for legal aid cases.
Judge O’Sullivan thanked him for explaining his position to the court.
It was reported that solicitors would not be carrying out criminal legal aid work in the Central and Circuit courts on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday of last week in a dispute over proposed legal aid reforms involving solicitor fees.
