A Dublin woman who stole an €11.99 nail varnish from a pharmacy and gave a false name to gardaí has been placed on a probation bond.

Zarah Farrell (27), with an address at South Circular Road, Dublin 8, had pleaded guilty to theft, providing a false name and address to gardaí, and failing to comply with a garda direction following an incident at Milltown Road, Dublin 6, on October 23, 2023.

At Dún Laoghaire District Court, Judge Anne Watkin heard that gardaí told Farrell to leave the area after she was seen acting suspiciously near Phelans Pharmacy. However, she was spotted back in the same place shortly afterwards.

The court heard that when Farrell was searched, a bottle of nail varnish valued at €11.99 belonging to Phelans Pharmacy was found in her possession.

The court heard that the nail polish had been taken from the shop without payment.

When asked for her name and address, the accused provided details which were later found to be false and misleading. She also failed to comply with a direction from gardaí to leave the vicinity.

The court heard Farrell has eight previous convictions.

Defence counsel said that Farrell is now engaging with services and is currently on a methadone programme.

Judge Watkin placed Farrell on a probation bond.
