A teenager who stole clothing and jewellery from shops in The Square Shopping Centre in Tallaght has been given a suspended sentence.
Cassandra Lingurar, (19) of Virginia Hall, Belgard Square West, Tallaght, Dublin 24, appeared before Judge Michael Connellan at Tallaght District Court, where she pleaded guilty to theft on July 5, 2024.
The court heard that Lingurar entered the New Look store, placed €310 worth of clothing into a bag and passed all points of payment without paying. She then entered Carraig Donn and concealed €188 worth of jewellery in a bag before again leaving the store.
The court was told Ms Lingurar is a Romanian national who has lived in Ireland for five years and is a single mother of two. She has six previous convictions, three of which are for theft under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act.
Her solicitor, Kevin Tunney, asked the court to consider his client’s age and personal circumstances, noting that she had expressed interest in engaging with restorative justice services.
Judge Connellan acknowledged her age but said: “She knows exactly what she’s doing,” and described her behaviour as “totally unacceptable” given her criminal history.
Ms Lingurar was convicted and handed a three-month suspended sentence under Section 99 of the Criminal Justice Act.
