Brother and sister charged with murder of Thomas Horan

A BROTHER and sister made no reply when they were charged with the murder of 63-year-old Thomas Horan, who was found dead in his sheltered accommodation apartment in Dublin on Monday.

The body of Mr Horan, who was believed to have originally come from Mullingar, Co. Westmeath, was found at his home at Cambridge Court, a housing complex in Irishtown, where he had been living for about four years.

At 4 a.m. on Monday gardai received a 999 alert call following the discovery of his body in the bedroom of his ground floor flat.

Man charged with attempted sexual assault of young woman

A 49-YEAR-OLD man was remanded in custody today after he was charged over an alleged attempted sexual assault on a young woman in Dublin on Monday morning.

James Donohoe, with an address at Harold’s Cross Road, Dublin, had been arrested and charged following an alleged attack on the woman who is in her twenties.

Dressed in navy chinos, a black jumper and an open neck shirt, he was brought before Judge Michael Walsh at Dublin District Court.

He has been charged with assault causing harm to the woman and attempting to sexually assault her at Effra Road, in Rathmines.

Woman charged with murder of Wayne McQuillan

A WOMAN was remanded in custody today after she was charged with the murder of 30-year-old man who died following a New Year’s Day stabbing in Drogheda.

Wayne McQuillan of Marian Park in Drogheda died after an incident happened in the Rathmullen Park area at about 1.30am on Wednesday morning.

Gardai discovered him collapsed with stab wounds in the front garden of a house. He was taken to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda, where he was later pronounced dead. A post mortem was carried out later, and 40-year-old Paula Farrell, of Rathmullen Park, Drogheda, was arrested on Wednesday morning.

Businessman charged over alleged €9 million diesel laundering operation

AN ARMAGH businessman has been charged in connection with an alleged €9 million a year diesel laundering operation.

Company director Paul Haughey (34), a father-of-three with an address at St Joseph’s Place, Crossmaglen, was arrested by appointment in Dublin city-centre this morning and charged under the Finance Act.

It is alleged that on September 1, 2011, at Corragarry, Castleblayney, in Co. Monaghan, without consent of the Revenue Commissioners, he removed or attempted to remove a marker from a mineral oil.

Detective Paul Kane from the Garda Organised Crime Unit told Judge Michael Walsh at Dublin District Court that he was objecting to bail ….read more

Two bailed over Tallaght attack

TWO people have been granted conditional bail after they were charged with violent disorder in connection with a New Year’s morning attack in Tallaght after which a young man died.

Dale Creighton (20) had been left fighting for his life in Beaumont Hospital after he he suffered serious injuries during an incident at Priorsgate, Saint Dominic’s road/N81, Tallaght, at around 4am on Wednesday.

However, he died this afternoon.

Woman to be sentenced later for assisting recidivist criminal

A mother-of-one is to be sentenced later for assisting a “recidivist criminal” who carried out a murder in Dublin four years ago by cleaning up the scene.

Siobhan Whitaker (25) with an address in Meadow Vale in London pleaded guilty to impeding the apprehension of an individual who she knew or believed to be guilty of Maurice Martin’s murder in Finglas on June 12, 2009.

The court heard that convicted criminal Daniel Gaynor, who was since murdered, killed the 21-year-old by stabbing him to death after he thought he smiled at his girlfriend.
