Convicted murderer Nathan Killeen will not now stand trial for the 2008 murder of James Cronin, after the State entered a nolle prosequi – a decision not to proceed – on the charge this morning.

Killeen (24) with a last address at Hyde Road, Prospect, had been charged with murdering 20-year-old James Cronin on a date unknown between April 5th and April 7th 2008 at a place unknown within the State.

Mr Cronin’s body was found in a shallow grave near Ballinacura Weston in April 2008. He had been shot in the head.

Trial date for Dr Michael Shine will not be set until after judicial review

The trial date of a retired consultant surgeon accused of indecently assaulting young males over a 26-year period will not be set until after the result of a High Court judicial review.

Dr Michael Shine (82) faces charges at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court of indecent assault against 22 alleged victims. The earliest charges relate to events in 1964.

Judge Mary Ellen Ring adjourned the matter again after she was informed that Dr Shine’s legal team are still awaiting judgement from the High Court and there is no indication as to when it will be delivered.

23-year-old denies Ballymun murder

A 23-year-old man has denied murdering a man and harming four other people near his north Dublin home two years ago.

David Brannock of St Joseph’s Way, Ballymun was arraigned before the Central Criminal Court this morning, charged with the five offences.

He pleaded not guilty to murdering Jason Flannery on September 13th, 2012 at St Joseph’s Way, Poppintree, Ballymun.

He also pleaded not guilty to intentionally or recklessly causing serious harm to John O’Neill on the same occasion.

He further denied assault causing harm to Jade Byrne, Anthony Byrne and Claire Byrne at the same time and place.

Mother-of-two who acted as getaway driver in two robberies gets suspended sentence

Dublin Circuit Criminal Court

A Dublin mother of two who acted as the getaway driver in two robberies and an attempted robbery has received a two-year suspended sentence.

Amanda Murphy (28) of Bride Street, pleaded guilty at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court to two charges of acting to impede the apprehension or prosecution of someone knowing they were responsible for a robbery and an attempted robbery on October 8, 2011.

She has no previous convictions and her barrister Bernard Condon SC submitted to the court that she was vulnerable at the time due to a drug addiction.

Man already serving life sentence for murder gets 12 years for shotgun possession

A man already serving life imprisonment for the murder of his best friend in Co. Kildare last year has been sentenced to 12 years for firearms offences at the Central Criminal Court.

Darren Wynne (21) of Ballyroe, Athy, Co. Kildare was convicted by a jury in July of murdering Jamie Lindsay (20) at Coney Green, Coneyboro, Athy on April 6, 2013 and is serving a life sentence.

The court heard that Mr Lindsay was shot in the right eye at almost point blank range at the Coneyboro estate.

Eight months in prison for man who had nearly €3,400 worth of drugs in his home

A MAN who was in possession of nearly €3,400 worth of drugs has been sentenced to eight months in prison.

Dwaine O’Connell, who has 16 previous convictions, including four convictions for unlawful possession of drugs, claimed the drugs were for his own use.

O’Connell (26) of Collis Court, Jugback Lane in Swords, Co Dublin pleaded guilty before Swords District Court to the unlawful possession of €3,000 worth of cannabis resin for sale or supply at his home address on January 23rd.
