Chef headbutted man and damaged his car in unprovoked attack

A COMMIS chef headbutted and punched a man who was waiting in a car outside a Chinese Takeaway for no reason, a court has heard.

Richard Devine (21) also rocked the injured party’s car before kicking in the doors causing €800 worth of damage.

Devine of Beneda, South Strand in Skerries, Co Dublin admitted he was drunk at the time of the offences and pleaded guilty before Balbriggan District Court to assaulting Shane Christy and causing criminal damage to his car in Rush, Co Dublin on May 3rd, 2013.

Jury to begin deliberations in trial of man charged with attempted murder of wife on her birthday

A jury will begin deliberating tomorrow on whether a 42-year-old man intended to kill his sleeping wife when he hit her over her head with a hammer on her birthday.

Andrzej Benko is on trial at the Central Criminal Court, charged with attempting to murder Joanna Benko while she was in bed sleeping on the morning of her 32nd birthday.

Mr Benko of Ladyswell Road, Mulhuddert admits hitting his wife over her head with a lump hammer at least three times. However, he has pleaded not guilty to attempted murder at that address on July 5, 2010.

Leitrim County Councillor gives evidence at trial of man charged in connection with David Black murder

The Special Criminal Court trial of a man charged in connection with the murder of Northern Ireland prison officer David Black has heard evidence from a Leitrim County Councillor.

Councillor John McCartin today gave evidence in the trial of Vincent Banks (44), of Smithfield Gate Apartments in Dublin 7, who has pleaded not guilty before the non-jury court to a charge of withholding information in relation to the murder.

Man who headbutted former partner avoids a prison sentence

A MAN who head-butted his former partner, breaking her nose, following an argument has avoided a prison sentence after he was ordered to complete community service work.

Peter Flood (32) was handed 240 hours community service work in lieu of a six month prison sentence. He was also bound to the peace for two years.

Judge Dermot Dempsey told Flood, who has 55 previous convictions, this is his ‘final opportunity’.

Murder jury shown footage of man prosecution contend is accused

A Dublin murder trial jury spent much of today watching CCTV footage of garda suspects and vehicles of interest to the investigation captured in the days before the killing.

Among the footage were video recordings of man whom the prosecution believes is the accused.

Eugene Cullen of Derry Road, Crumlin has pleaded not guilty to murdering Seamus O’ Byrne (27) at Tymon Park North, Tallaght, on March 13, 2009.

The Central Criminal Court has heard that Mr O’Byrne was shot dead by a hooded gunman in front of his girlfriend and child in the driveway of their home.

A 42-year-old man charged with attempting to murder his wife on her birthday said he feared their toddler would die after finding her drugs.

The jury was today shown the lump hammer with which the accused man said he hit her over the head. The jury also saw a photograph of 10 red roses he had bought for her an hour earlier.
