Man jailed for life for murdering father-of-one

A man has been jailed for life at the Central Criminal Court for the murder of a father-of-one in north Dublin.

Andrew Gibney (21) of Drumheath Avenue, Mulhuddart had pleaded not guilty to murdering Gerard Burnett (28) at Castlecurragh Vale, Mulhuddart on August 21, 2012.

Mr Burnett suffered 30 stab wounds after he was attacked by a group of men outside his girlfriend’s house and was pronounced dead in hospital a short time later.

Gibney told gardai that Mr Burnett stabbed him in the shoulder with a screwdriver four years previously but they had since made amends.

Bus passenger swung meat cleaver at driver for not stopping, court hears

A 44-YEAR-OLD bus passenger swung a meat cleaver at a driver who refused to stop for him, a court in Dublin heard today.

Robert Fogarty, from Cardy Rock Court, Balbriggan, in north Co. Dublin, has been charged with possessing a meat cleaver as a weapon.
It is alleged he had the knife while travelling on a bus at Atrium Road, Dublin Airport, on Monday night.

“Largest facilitator of child porn in the world” may seek judicial review

An Irishman wanted in the US and described as “the largest facilitator of child porn in the world” may seek judicial review of the DPP’s decision not to prosecute him in Ireland.

Eric Eoin Marques, who is alleged to be the owner and administrator of an anonymous hosting site known as Freedom Hosting, is wanted by US authorities to face charges relating to conspiring to distribute and advertise child pornography, and advertising and distributing child pornography.

Hardy Buck to stand trial in May

HARDY Bucks star Martin Maloney, who denies attacking two security men while he was making an appearance at a pub in Dublin, will stand trial in May.

The 30-year-old actor, from Bollingbrook Drive, Swinford, Co. Mayo has pleaded not guilty to two assault charges following an alleged row with bouncers about a queue to toilets at The Big Tree pub.

He faces two counts under Section 3 of the Non-Fatal Offences Against the Person Act for assault causing harm to Brian Smith and Mark O’Shaughnessy, on October 9, 2012.

Bench warrant issued for man due to stand trial on IRA membership

Special Criminal Court

The Special Criminal Court in Dublin today issued a bench warrant for the arrest of Dublin man who was due to stand trial next week on an IRA membership charge following a garda investigation into paramilitary activity at the funeral of murdered Real IRA leader Alan Ryan in 2012.

Nathan Kinsella (33) was due to stand trial next Tuesday for membership of an unlawful organisation styling itself the Irish Republican Army, otherwise Oglaigh na hEireann, otherwise the IRA on September 13th, 2012.

Brother of murder accused gives evidence

A Mayo teenager has told his brother’s murder trial that the accused was high and ‘absolutely schizo about his drugs disappearing’ hours before he killed their mother.

Ferdia Eadon (19) was giving evidence to the Central Criminal Court today in the trial of his older brother, Celyn Eadon.

The 22-year-old of Derrycrieve, Islandeady, Castlebar admits the manslaughter of Noreen Kelly at that address on March 9, 2011. However, he has pleaded not guilty to murdering the 46-year-old, who died of multiple stab wounds.
