Manager on sick leave settles action against his employer

A credit manager with Rabobank has settled his High Court action against his employer purported attempts to dismiss him.

Colin Browne, who has been on sick leave arising from stress since January last, claimed Rabobank Ireland PLC intended to dismiss him because he has not attended internal disciplinary hearings concerning his absence from work.

The court had previously been told that Mr Browne, a father of three from Forest Park, Celbridge, Co Kildare, was medically certified as unfit for work due to stress and was unable to attend the disciplinary hearings due to his illness.

Murder accused told gardai that deceased was threatening him

A man accused of shooting his best friend in Co. Kildare last year told gardai the deceased was threatening him over money.

Darren Wynne (21) of Ballyroe, Athy, Co. Kildare, Quentin Monaghan (21) of Tullamoy, Stradbally, Co. Laois and James Seery (21) of Canal Side, Athy were arraigned before the Central Criminal Court last week.

All three pleaded not guilty to murdering Jamie Lindsay (20) at Coney Green, Coneyboro, Athy, Co. Kildare on April 6, 2013.

Mr Wynne also pleaded not guilty to possession of a sawn-off shotgun and ammunition with intent to endanger life on that occasion.

Roma teenager shot in the head four times and buried in a shallow grave

A 35-year-old Dublin man has gone on trial charged with murdering Romanian teenager Marioara Rostas in the city six years ago.

The 18-year-old girl died of gunshot wounds to her head before her body was buried in a shallow grave, where it was discovered four years later.

Alan Wilson of New Street Gardens in the city has pleaded not guilty to murdering Ms Rostas at Brabazon Street, The Coombe between January 7 and January 8, 2008.

Prosecutor Seán Gillane opened the trial at the Central Criminal Court today, telling the jury that the victim was an ethnic Roma from very poor circumstances ….read more

Murder accused first heard of former partner's death on radio news

The jury in the trial of a man accused of stabbing his former partner has heard that he first learned of her death on the radio news.

Vesel Jahiri, of Louth Village, Dundalk but originally from Kosovo, has pleaded not guilty to murdering Anna Finnegan at Allendale Glen, Clonsilla in Dublin on the 21 of September 2012.

Mr Jahiri has also pleaded not guilty to assault causing harm on Ms Finnegan’s brother, Karl, on the same date.

The Central Criminal Court has previously heard how Anna Finnegan and Mr Jahiri had been in a ten-year relationship that had ‘deteriorated dramatically’.

Limerick man Wayne Dundon was the “moving spirit” behind the operation to murder businessman Roy Collins, the Special Criminal Court has heard.

Closing speeches were today heard in the non-jury trial of Wayne Dundon (36), of Lenihan Avenue, Prospect and Nathan Killeen (24) of Hyde Road, Prospect, who have pleaded not guilty to the murder of 35-year-old Roy Collins at Coin Castle Amusements, Roxboro Road Shopping Centre on April 9, 2009.

The jury in the trial of a man accused of murdering his former partner has been told that information was ‘whitewashed’ from the evidence he gave yesterday.

Vesel Jahiri, of Louth Village, Dundalk but originally from Kosovo, has pleaded not guilty to murdering Anna Finnegan at Allendale Glen, Clonsilla in Dublin on the 21 of September 2012.
