Mass card salesman jailed for child porn possession begins appeal

A mass-card salesman who was jailed for 18 months for possessing hundreds of images of child pornography has begun an appeal against his conviction.

Thomas McNally (53) was jailed for 18 months in October 2011 after a Longford Circuit Criminal Court jury found him guilty on two counts of possessing child pornography on February 6th and 7th, 2006.

McNally, of Foynes Court, Longford, had pleaded not guilty to the possession of 676 images of child pornography which had been downloaded on to A4 sheets.

Teen who drove at 200km/h disqualifed and given four-month sentence

A TEENAGER who drove his car along the M1 motorway at Swords at speeds of up to 200kmph has been disqualified from driving and given a four month suspended sentence.

John Joyce caused other motorists to take evasive action to get out of his way and caused a patrol car to travel at 170kmph after him, Swords District Court has heard.

Joyce (19) with addresses at St Cronin’s Close in Swords and Moateview Avenue in Coolock pleaded guilty to dangerous driving on September 15th, 2013 on the M1 and failing to stop for gardai on the same date.

20-year-old pleads not guilty to Dublin murder

A 20-year-old Dublin man has pleaded not guilty to murdering another man in the capital two and a half years ago.

Craig O’Halloran of Colepark Road, Ballyfermot is charged with murdering Kevin Kenny on Sarsfield Road, also in Ballyfermot.

When arraigned before the Central Criminal Court today, he pleaded not guilty to murdering the 32-year old on July 31, 2011.

Potential jurors were told that Mr O’Halloran’s family had lived on Kilmartin Drive in Tallaght, until moving to Ballyfermot in 2009.

High Court orders extradition of man wanted in North on attempted hijacking charge

The High Court has ordered the extradition of a man to Northern Ireland to face ten charges including alleged assault, burglary and attempted hijacking there in 2006.

Michael Collins, who is currently serving a three year sentence in Cloverhill prison for aggravated burglary and endangerment, is wanted by UK authorities on a European Arrest Warrant which was issued last year and endorsed by the High Court on July 2 2013.

Mr Collins, who said he will contest the charges, could face life imprisonment or up to 15 years in prison if convicted.

Woman who was drunk in public sentenced to one month in prison

A WOMAN who was drunk in public at lunchtime and used threatening and abusive behaviour has been sentenced to one month in prison.

Valerie Quaid (45) of Castlemills in Balbriggan had previously pleaded guilty before Swords District Court to being intoxicated, failing to comply with garda direction and using threatening and abusive behaviour at Trimblestown, Balbriggan, Co Dublin on July 18th.

Garda Damien O’Reilly said he received a call that Quaid was very intoxicated on the day.

Sinn Fein candidate wins High Court order lifting suspension from party

A Sinn Fein local election candidate, who was suspended from the party for allegedly threatening that he could send an ex-IRA prisoner after his wife, has won a High Court order lifting his suspension from the party.

Edward McCarrick, 33, who says he will vehemently contest the alleged complaint in a disciplinary process, according to his counsel, was selected at a convention last October to run for SF in the Ballymote (South Sligo) Local Electoral Area.
